Thread: Brake pedal goes to floor after brake job

Update: After breaking a bolt on one of my front calipers, I bought two brand new front calipers and rotors. (The pads were fine.) My brother and I put them on the car yesterday. Today we finished and bled the brakes multiple times until the brake pedal stiffened. I turned the car on, pumped the pedal, and it went all the way to the floor. After a few pumps it got stiffer, but if I waited 10 seconds or so, the pedal goes to the floor again. We bled the brakes three more times. Same thing. Bled it two more times. Same thing. Im not sure what to do now. Any help is appreciated.

Drill + tap time.
Also brake cleaner is by no means a good thing to use on stuck bolts. ATF fluid, Liquid Wrench, PB-Blaster, WD-40, etc. are all good choices.

True true. One of my worst experiences ever has been drilling and tapping one of those suckers.

If you have a tap and drill and want to do it then do it! I have a couple sets of AD22's and some AD18's depending on what you want and SS brake lines, I live in portland/Gresham So feel free to PM me, if you decide on getting a new one I can hook you up!

Are you taking about the slide bolts or caliper to spindle bolts ? I say heat up the slide bolt if thats the case and get a new hardware kit . Antiseize is your best freind ! Remeber that

II broke a bolt doing my b14 as well. I had eñough sticking out to take a dremel and make a flat spot on each side and got it out with an adjustable wrench.

It turns out I broke the adjuster bolt, not the bolt that holds it on. So I said screw and picked up some new calipers. It was time to replace them haha.

The only problem im having now is getting the separator clips on the pads inside the caliper. Its a pain in the ass. Is there an easy way to do it?

We got the calipers on, and bled the brake system. I turned the car on and pumped the brakes a few times and the pedal goes to the floor. We bled it again and the pedal stiffens, but after a few seconds if I pump it again it goes to the floor. Can anyone help?

Did you let the master cyl get completely empty? If so take it off and bench bleed it... there's a trick. Nobody else will tell you this but if you have any extra flywheel bolts you can thread them into 3 of the brake line holes at a time to block them.

Also check if you master cyl is leaking by looking for chipped paint by the base, or checking on the inside of your floor by the pedals.

Bleed again.
