Wheel experts please school me.
I have a set of no name wheels that I am going to be using for my track tires. I have been crunching numbers but I am far from an expert on this subject. My stock wheels are 15x6 +40 and the wheels I am using 15x7 +35. As best as I can come up with new wheels will stick out an extra 18 mm and I will have 8 mm less space between my suspention and wheels than I have now.

To go along with the wider wheels I am also moving to a new tire size. The tires I have now are 205/60 15 and the new ones 225/45 15 which leaves me with an extra 10 mm of rubber on the inside of the tire versus the stock one.

My thinking is that I may have to run around a 10mm spacer to achieve a similar amount of spacing with the new wheel tire combo as I have now.

Like I said, I am by no means an expert with this, as a matter of fact this is the first time I am ever putting aftermarket wheels on any car. That being said feel free to correct my noobness with this subject.

Just re-thought this and now I believe I may need a 20 mm spacer to achieve the same clearance. My new wheel is going to sit 8mm closer to my suspension and the new tire will have 10mm more rubber on the inside which totals 18mm. Am I crazy?

gunnartalon, you're basically correct in your math and assumptions.

However, be aware the the section width listed on a tire (the numbers you are quoting) is not necessarily the widest part of the tire, nor does it have a direct relationship to how wide the tire is in reality. There's a different name for that measurement, and that spec is hard to come by. It also can depend on tire pressure and vehicle weight. O_o

That being said, if you're running a S13, you should have no problems at all fitting those new wheels and tires up front. In the rear, obviously you have WAY more room than that. =D
I would recommend a wider setup for the rear...

Is this not for the S13 in your signature?

7" width is considered to be too narrow for a track s13 but if you are close to stock power it should be fine. I was told by the guys on NRR that the volk se37 17x7.5 were too narrow but I got them anyhow as they are an excellent wheel and I am running 225/45/17. If you are running this on a b chassis than you are def in the right ballpark as my 15x7 +30 wheels fit just fine on my nx in the front, I think a 5mm spacer is required out back.

This setup is going on my s13 track car. Reason that I want to run this is the wheels were essentially free and I can get a good deal on a set of rs3 tires. I am going to end up getting bigger wheels probably next year but in the meantime I want to put as much rubber on the ground as I can with stock fenders.

I also want to keep the same size all the way around as I have been told that the s13 does not like staggered wheels on the track.

those are super tiny wheels and tires for an s13. i would not put a 225 on a 7 its going to bubble a bit and just be odd in general. and thats a hard size to find in a 15 without going big sidewall. or r compound. get some cheap 17x9s and 245s on all 4 corners. you can get xxr wheels for like $100 a wheel.

Hard, but not impossible. Hankook Ventus R-S3 is the easy choice. And he said he had a line on a good deal for these.

Agreed. I'm sure he has plans similar to this for next year like he said.

I track on 10 year old rotas. never ever seen anyone have wheel failure unless they crash hard and crack a wheel which i have seen even happen to super expensive wheels, most people i know track on K1 wheels which are no better than xxr or rota.

and your 225s look super skinny my 205 azenis have more bubble than that on a 7" wide wheel. and my friend tracked on those ventus tires and they sounded like a helicopter after one track day. i wasnt to impressed with them when compared to azenis
