Thread: overhaul tein ss coilovers?

Noticed while trying to adjust the dampening on my CO's the other day that one of the top adjustment screws won't move...If it does move it just unscrews from the CO.

Not sure at the miles on them since they are used, but I doubt a lot of people go through the trouble of sending their CO's back to the manufacturer for a rebuild.

Looking for some input on what people think of this. They aren't leaking oil and seem to be fine for now. Should I just send the one coilover out, have them repair it and see if it's in spec? I figure the one coilovers condition, as far as internals go, should reflect what the rest of them look like.

Thoughts?

Just because its not leaking does not mean its not damaged. remove the spring from the strut and see if you can move the piston by hand. Many companies will sell you a single strut.

Pull the guts out and trow some konis in it!

Tein offers a fairly affordable rebuild/revalve price.Time might be an issue,though.Last I checked,it was about a 6-8 week turnaround time.Iirc,price for a general refresh was $100 + any damaged parts.Call them and check,I've talked to their tech guys,and they seemed like pretty decent cats.

Konis is about $125 per

Send them for a rebuild. You'll have new coilovers. I'm doing it for mine since I've had them for a long long time and they've seen plenty of abuse. I've been looking for a fully assembled stock suspension so I can swap in until I get my coilovers back.

Probably actual time spent doing it,yes.Sending them off to God knows where,waiting for shipping,taking the long road back to deliver them,etc.I was gonna send mine back around Nov. 2010,the Tein guy actually told me 10-12 weeks I decided to wait a while and see.

One of the reasons I went with Tein SS coilovers over for my B13 was the tech dept and rebuild prices. A rebuild is like a new set.

Call Tein and talk to them about the problem. Ask them about costs. I love this forum but in this case your most accurate information will come directly from the manufacturer.

IMHO I wouldn't pay to fix anything that's not broken. Maybe fix the problem on the one. As for a complete rebuild on the whole set, the nice thing about Teins is, if they start to feel a little "weak" you can adjust them until they feel better again.
