Thread: my suspension!!

Sweet holy mother of god. I remember when Shawn would have responded with something close to 4chan bullying lol. Damn near made me leave the forum a few times but it also made me stop being so f'in stupid thus, over time, becoming an actual usefull member lol. The times are a changin!

I have seen a car jack knife coming into the advance auto parking lot from a ball joint failing. Ie, less than 10mph, totally stock. Control arm shot into the pavement when turning and hooked, the car spun like a top! Imagine a weld failing at high way speeds! It's not a joke champ, ppl are trying to keep you safe.

I wouldn't trust anyone to modify a control arm that hasn't personally welded up a tube frame rock crawler.

1) Therapy. Over a decade with my current shrink.

2) Happy pills. Two (2) pills twice a day.

3) Not unleashing Mr. Hyde and going savage several times a week at work. Thinking every single time I left for work "Tonight is a fine night to die" while loading a flashlight, handcuffs, and two (2) folding tactical knives to my belt.

I'm still a work in progress, but I am improving.

I had a ball-joint snap on my 1968 Volvo while in high school. Back in 1980. When the joint snapped the control arm dug into the asphalt. I was doing about 40-mph. The control arm on the drivers side digging into the asphalt caused my vehicle to swing into the oncoming lane, leaving a scar in the road surface that was 60-feet long and a few inches wide. Steering did nothing, brakes did nothing I could discern.

Luckily there was no oncoming vehicles. I checked my undies (clean), and then flipped on the flashers and walked home. The vehicle was absolutely unmovable.

That is basically what happens if your control arm (ball joint) fails.

Getting my control arms extend soon maybe by the end of this week or next week. I'll prove you guys wrong about me welding my control arms.

I'm going to weld my control arms soon by myself. Also im going to get an extra set and ask my autobody teacher to weld my extra set. Btw I don't need the bushings since they aren't bad yet

Now this makes me a little scared.........

If this is your first set or first welding job, I advise you take it to a professional, watch it get done, get a few tips, etc before attacking such a pivotal part of your vehicle..........

If that thing fails on the highway and you somehow decided to take out a few vehicles and end a few lives, I will promise you, the charges against you (especially after this thread is uprooted) would be insurmountable...........

cant you just buy tubular control arms like this http://www.overkillengineeringmotorsports.com/tucoar1.html and extend out the area where the ball joint mounts?? just an idea

buying from overkill is a big no no..

i didnt say buy from them, but i feel that the concept is a pretty neat idea, and might be something to consider. i honestly think that extending a factory front control arm is not a good idea. why not have an adjustable made to fit your exact needs. do it right the first time, because when it beaks, you will wish you did. just my 2cents.

i agree that a adjustable tubular control arm would be much better idea then modding a stock one.
