BABK questions
Has anyone looked up Wilwood Calliper (edit) reviews on other forums? Almost everything is negative. I am wondering if the praise Wilwoods get on this forum is due to it being the only real option if you want to keep 15" wheels (I have an NX so ad22 already).

The 11.75 fastbrakes kit now comes with optional ap racing callipers but these are $350 extra. I am quite certain these are the 5200 series caliper which has some poor reviews as well.

Does anyone on here have experience with the ap calipers? are they worth the $? Also does anyone know if it is possible to get seperate parts of the wilwood kits? I just want the caliper and mounting brakets if I do get them as I can just get rotors up here (Canada).

PS I have an NX awaiting a turbo swap. 250ish WHP and it will be see HPDE and autoX. Thanks.

You could try buying just the dog bone mounting adapters from Fastbrakes but unless you tell him you already own a kit and they are replacements, I'm not sure he'll want to sell you them. Maybe...

You ask if we've looked up reviews on other forums. Reviews of what exactly? You don't mention a single big-ass-brake-kit (BABK) by name in your post title or the first paragraph where you ask the question. How are we supposed to answer that question?

If you can get the brackets only, then you can source the correct Wilwood (or AP) calipers yourself, and the correct rotors, and the braided stainless steel brake lines. However, at that point you're left with essentially a clone of the Fastbrakes 11" or 11.75" brake kit. You don't seem to be sure that's what you want?

lines are easy, i can get the size for you and you can order it from jegs for like $50.

Thanks for the replies guys. If I go with the Wilwoods I will get the brackets and get the callipers separate as I can then get the billet callipers instead of the forged ones. Keo I will definitely take you up on that offer when the time comes.

Oops, that's what happens when you get up too early (went to bed at 1 and up at 4. I was referring to Wilwood reviews in general.

ie
Wilwood Forged Superlite/dynalite calipers technical review - V6 Performance.net Forums

"When I decided to upgrade the brakes on my '93 R1 (European version) I took the car to England to have a kit custom made - after having looked at the unbelievable crap that is sold by the various tuners in the US (Wilwood, Outlaw etc.)." From Brake Upgrades

Does anyone know what diameter of piston the sentra kit comes with.
Wilwoods come in 1.25" 1.38 1.62 etc. Thanks

After reading the link you posted, the problem seems to have been the original poster's choice of high performance street pads when he should have been on aggressive race pads for that particular track. Also, his power output (Supercharged V6) and vehicle weight (2,900 lbs.) seem to dictate the need for possibly a larger caliper/pad than the forged superlite caliper he was using.

His complaint was lack of initial bite at 140 MPH toward the end of the straight, and that seemed his pad choice was at fault.

None of the blame seemed to fall on the Wilwood caliper itself after reading the thread. The choice of pad was the main thing, and possibly he undersized his caliper/piston/pad as well.

I believe you'll find that the B13s and B14s that actually see real track time don't have the power, nor the weight to overwhelm the Fastbrakes kits with Wilwood calipers. With correct pad choice, you should be fine.

While I have the billet Wilwood dynalite calipers on my car, I don't know what piston bore they are. Sorry.
Is there a reason you seem to prefer the old, billet dynalite caliper over the stronger, lighter, forged version?

Yeah. Pad choice did seem to be the main culprit in this case, combined with too small a piston diameter (1.25). I would love to what the fastbrakes piston diameter is. I have a u13 mc to upgrade too and want to match the mc and piston size as best as possible. know

I will measure the piston marks on my old pads and get the piston size.
