CSKs are too short for OEM springs, right? (SCCA GS setup)
So I'm looking to setup my new to me B13 SE-R for stock class autocross, and I'm trying to work out a better shock than the AGX if possible. I know folks use a Koni insert in a shortened housing for lowered setups, but what about OEM length? I'd expect to run into coil bind with the CSK type setups. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I have koni red inserts on my b13. I did it the way koni engineered them to be in the oe housings. I did the job by myself when I was 17. I didnt know about shortening the housing and making the "cartridge" fit lower into the housing.

I am running stock springs with the full length koni inserts. I have no complaints with the setup. The only thing im going to do is progress F&R sways and see how it handles from there.

So, that being said. I am running the setup DD status for 3.5-4 years now with no complaints. And I have pushed the car to its limits on backroads and in the sharp corners it is asking for better tires than my Dunlop Direzza DZ101. Its a solid starting platform.

If you are going to attend the Bama meet, you can ride/drive my car to see what you think before you spend the money.

You can run stock springs either with Koni inserts installed as designed, or the CSK install, with the bottom of the Koni insert dropped through the bottom of the strut housing. You should not get any coil bind with the CSK configuration, just a bit more suspension travel. But if you never intend to run shortened springs, then why go to the extra hassle of shortening the strut?

Also, the shortened strut may not be consistent with stock class designation for autocross -- I'm not sure of the rules that might apply.

Here's the deal: Are your stockers blown? If not, forget about modding the car and go buy some Hoosiers or Kumho 710's. Start with those and get a feel for the car on R-Compounds. (No offense if you already have them). THEN go bigger front bar only. I don't think the rules allow larger rear bar. After getting used to the feel of that setup, then you go shocks so that you can tune out push or looseness. IMHO unshortened Konis F/R is your best bet. Shortening them breaks the rules. Full stiff or revalved even stiffer rear and OTS SV yellows up front. Also I used GC bumpstops...they are the same as the koni ones but are cheaper Again, shocks are the last step in the puzzle once you really learn the car. Take it one mod at a time.

Hard to say, they're Monroe Matics and have probably been installed within the last 5 years or so.

Planning on running on wheels / tires left over from my STS Miata for the remainder of this season.

Next season.

I think I have enough experience to run a front bar and shocks immediately.

Do they make yellows as inserts for stock? I haven't had much luck finding part numbers.

Did some reasearch on this one :

13.5 A4 The fully extended length must be within plus or minus one inch of the dimension of the standard part.

So it looks like a shortened housing is ok, as long as it is within 1" of stock. I should be able to handle that.

At this point it looks like B15s up front will work out ok.
