IIRC, about ten years ago in EuropeanCar or some mag, a guy had an old school VW Fox. A boxy little sedan that I always liked the looks of, but it had a very pedestrian drivetrain.

He raised the strut towers to get the stance he wanted. Literally cut off the top of the strut tower, welded in a one or two inch band of metal, and welded a top back on.

He also stuffed in a 1.8 liter VW/Audi turbo motor, Audi wheels, bigger brakes from the parts bin, etc...etc....

that's what i'm talking about but not as extreme on this frist try. just mnoving the moutn from the bottom to the top. those are the extended ones your talking bout. gc actuatlly makes them bolt in for the hondas.

Actually, I stand by my assertation, it is 100% correct.

Notice I said "prematurely". Now....."when" in that "prematurely" is up to the roads, driving style, bumpstops utilized, mileage, and luck. However, "premature" is not a guess or theory, the stock length struts will fail prematurely. If it is after 6, 12, or even 48 months, it is still gonna be premature failure. Strut failure faster than it would have been with a properly designed spring, due to bottoming out the struts.

Serban and some Floridians with their apparently manicured pavement would tell you that they are fine as well. He and I have had this discussion as well.

H&R's, along with every other "Non Forum Derived Springs" (RM/Hyperco) are flamed because they deserve to be flamed.

The manufacturers invariably did NOT take into account the limited travel of the Nissan suspension. I know this for a fact. I personally called each and every one of them on the phone and talked to an engineer or technician. You should have heard the stuttering, stammering, and craw-fishing when I explained to them the facts of our suspensions and the 3-inches of stock travel.

"Uh....oh...well, we uh...they were designed...uh...well...er...to work with stock length stuts...uh with no modifications....uh...we wont't give out the spring rate, it's proprietary...uh...gee....No, we did not actually get a B13 and do hands-on testing....but...we, uh....based our design on our experience...with...uh...other vehicles...Really? Only 3-inches of stock travel from the factory? No kidding?...well that means you would only have 1-inch of travel left...oh geez...Maybe you want to speak to our Sales Manager..."

The aftermarket spring companies did ZERO testing, evaluation, or even general research before they built their respective springs. They may as well have thrown a damn dart at a "drop chart" and yelled "ureka" where it landed.

"Aren't bad at all daily..." if you don't mind bottoming out with stock length struts. If you have ultra-smooth roads. If you drive like you're an extra for the 3 pm Luby's parking-lot scene in Murder She Wrote.

Hyperco springs were designed, specifically engineered, by Mike Kojima, Chriscar, and the Hyperco engineers to work with AGX's and CSK's. The spring rate had to be high enough, and the drop kept to a minimum, in order for them to work. Mike K did extensive testing of the springs. Actual real-world, no bullshit, testing. On a B13. By an expert.

Road Magnets were in effect designed around nearly the same exact specifications and parameters as the Hypercoil's. The sincerest form of flattery...

That sounds safe it you hit a mid-corner bump at speed that upsets the bottomed-out struts and suspension.

And if you have glass smooth roads (apparently like most of Florida) and drive like a granny, then the H&R's might be OK for a while.

However, how many of us on this forum have both glass smooth roads and drive like a blue-haired senior citizen?

As Chappelle would say "just keepin' it real."

has anyone here ever Actually blown a strut from using h&r's? i've never seen/heard anyone mention it besides in the suspension thread or in threads where people ask about any other spring then rm or hyperco.. now im not sayin its not possible cause its extremely possible but again, never seen anyone actually prove it. so till then its hear say to Me.

if anything i know more about h&r's then almost everyone here since i ran them for almost 5 years, can anyone else say that?

not tryin to defend h&r's or start an argument im simply stating that they dont blow your struts out as fast as people say.. (or atleast for me they didnt)

I've blown probalby half dozen AGX over the years. 95% of that was from springs that were too low.

We're discussing if the H&R's suck, or if they really, really suck.

i must be a lucky son of a gun to get away with using them for so long thats for sure..

ben knows damn right now i drive, i drive Fun.. an as far as i can tell my struts are still fine.. whats your opinion on this ben? i know you didnt get a chance to drive the car with the h&r's but you did ride in it Once back before you sold fasty and you've road in it several times since the RM's an even drivin it.. now i know the handling is better and thats not a question.. i guess the question is do you think my struts are bad? i've never had a bad strut so i wouldn't know for sure the symptoms, but im assuming it would be quite noticeable?

You will know when they're blown. It did suck riding in your car with the H&Rs but I can tolerate it. The AGXs definitely had their life shortened from that....
