I was just using that site for ref. I would not spend that much on some of those anyway.

Yes as stated above you are not going to achieve better performance by going that low. But for those that want the look and dont care about performance then this is the answer you are looking for:

Because of the limited suspension travel that our cars have once the lower control arm goes beyond horizontal it starts to bind the CV axles (especially the driver side) and starts to push the axle into the transmission and wheels bearing. The real only way to correct for this is to have custom axles made that are 1/4 to 1/2 inch shorter. This isnt as big of a job or expensive as most think. There is someone here in Orlando what does it for around $200 a side. As you can see in the pic above, the RCA moves your lower control arm further down allowing to free the CV axle a little bit. You just will run into clearance issues using them.
The other problem is that because the axle is pushing into the trans it is a real PITA to remove your axles out of the trans when you go to replace them. Because of the binding this causes it in turn causes heat and your axles will wear faster than normal.

A friend of mine figured this out after going though axle after axle after axle. Here is a pic of Russell's car: and those are 17's to give you a idea on how low his car truly is.

Very good answer.

Exactly what I was looking for. As for custom axles, I wonder if you could just shorten some OEM ones. I know Raxles needs a core to make some so I wonder if he would be able to do that.

The Driveshaft Shop is more typically dealing with modifications like this over Raxles I think?

I bet you could take off 0.25 inches from the transmission side of the axle with a grinding wheel and the car wouldn't even notice.

Assuming its the length of the input shafts is what you need to shave down? It could be the length of the shaft it self. Which could turn out to be tricky to reweld. You really wouldnt want a weak weld on a axle, lol.

heres a few shots of mine. with D2 coilovers. i believe this is as low as i can get without totally rubbing against the axle

^ what size are your wheels? Thats really the only way to tell, by fender to rim clearance.

I really dont think that this idea would work very well; a factory axle is not going to bottom out on anything in your transmission (unless SR FWD trans are the exception to the rule), this is to allow movement in and out of the trans. The splines cut into the axle are what would limit how far into the trans the axle would go in, not to mention you would be getting quite close to the C-clip at the end of the axle if you were to cut off 1/4 inch. If you could find a set of used axles that you could drop off at a shop that makes custom axles they could most likely take it from there. Alot of times what they will do is use a stock inner rzeppa joint (the large one thats shaped like a triangle) and find another axle with the same spline count and diameter, but is just shorter in overall length.

I believe lowering a car helps lower the CG which will result in better performance no?

For christ sake, Im not resting the fender on the rim lip with some super strected tires and crazy camber.

Here is your answer:

Mike Kojima (Choaderboy2) did some custom stuff to lower his car beyond the normal limits.

Here you go. All of this is pretty much waaaaay beyond most enthusiasts skills, knowledge, or checkbook.
