my next set will be a 225/45 RS3 - i hear they wear somewhat fast, but they are around $105 /tire

right now i have 215/50 BFG. they are nice, but i want something stickier.

and for around $140 like you said there are drag radials, which i saw the NT01s around that price.

the star specs i hear great things about, and they last a little longer, and around $108 but i can only find them in 205/50

According to Tirerack, the Kumho XS had the best dry grip out of the 4 extreme performance summer category tires. The UTQG is a 180. Pricing is $93 right now. My guess is you'd get 5K-10K out of them with hard use. That would be my pick for best value in your parameters.

A had a 225-45-16 w/ a 7 rim on the front of my old NX. No dice for the rear, though. The size your considering is about the same circumference. The issue becomes not all 225-50-15 tires are going to be the same width. 225 is a guide not an exact measure. On my old setup it was very tight on the front. On full lock it rubbed a little on the plastic liner. So the short answer is maybe on the fronts and no on the rears.

The setup:

I agree with you, the 205 or 225 is really just a guideline. I think Lou would agree with me that the RE-11 looks wider (and probably is) then other 205s I have run.

I was telling Strat via text I didn't think a 225 would work on the rear without coilovers and depending on the offset a spacer as well.

Thanks bluesteele, cant beat the performance u get for the price. Id say there inbewteen a azenis and a drag radial as far as traction goes.

Next few days ill start ordering rims and shortly after tires locally if I can get them.

if you want something really cheap with some decent grip, id say get the falken ze-912's.
i currently have then on my b14 and i go for spirited drives often. the grip is great but the life may not be as long as other tires. id say with my driving, they should last me 20k miles. and i got them for $63 (205/50/15).
