Thread: Camber plates-avalibility

I just called GC and asked them if their camber plates would work with an OEM-diameter spring and he said no. It needs to be a smaller (around 2.5") diameter spring or else it won't steer very well. He gave me the exact reason but it was a bit over my head technically. I would imagine that this is also the case with all over camber plates that mount to the top of the strut tower instead of underneath.

It's not going to be the struts that are the issue. The issue will be the upper spring mount and bearing. The spring mount used for a stockish spring (read: wide diameter) is supported against the underside of the strut tower. When using camber plates, the spring is usually supported using a cone shaped spacer riding on the sperical bearing within the plate. That's to allow space to adjust the top of the strut...ie. the whole point of the plates. I would think something would have to be rigged or fabbed to make it work. ...which in the end, going with coilovers is easier.

Your other option is to slot the lower bolts...but thats not as easy as it sounds... to do it right. Then the issue of slipping comes into play.

Dam this is looking like it's going to be a pain in the ass. Looks like I will be using the stock top hats.I probably end up making the mounting bolts longer I seen a write up for that some where.

From what I understand,by using the cusco style plates that go under will let you keep the cusco bar,but the front will raise slightly because of the thickness of material.
I dont want that because the car already has the illusion of being higher in the front due to the wheelwell/bodylines.

Cusco & Tein plates are not good if you plan on lowering the car. I had the Cusco ones and did not like them one bit. Get the GC plates and coilovers and call it a day. You can change your spring rate at any point for pretty cheap so there is no reason not to.

Just updated and missed updating the Tein pillow ball mounts.

I just updated the Suspension Thread....again.

Ground Control Camber plates will not work with stock or stock replacement springs. Coilover springs only.

anybody ever think about taking the stock mounts and removing the center. Then welding a new plate at the top to mount the strut. then you would get the extra travel and solid mount.
like the honda boys do.

once i get my progress rear sway bar installed, my car will handle as good as I want it to, so anything else is cosmetic.

what I want to be able to do, is effectively lower the front by another 1/2 inch with a bottom mount camber plate (right??) and even out the look of my hypercoils which appear to low in the rear..
