Coil over rebuilding?
Anyone know any places that can do this? I thought I wouldn't be able to convert my D2's to a serviceable unit until today. I found a guy on a MR2 board that can rebuild them and re-valve them so they don't suck. The bad part is it's spare time work and I don't want to be without my struts for more than 3 weeks. The guy did some awesome work on them, from what he said the older units that don't click when u adjust them seem to take well to adjustments, but the newer click units don't take too well but come out way better than they would from the factory.

I know several places that will service dampners... Cost usually start around $600+ to rebuild depending on what all you have them do. Still won't fix the valving design.

Some manufacturers offer reduced cost servicing also (ie TEIN rebuilds cost less through their service center).

600 and they don't re-valve them?

So are you looking for a re-valve or a rebuild? A true re-valve is a rebuild + shock dyno time to test valve packing. Costs more and STILL won't fix D2 valving design. It might be better than it was but IMO is waste of money on that dampner.

IMO you would be better putting koni insert in the body.

X2 Put koni's in them

Things have gone well and do not foresee any problems.

The Adjusters are now functional. And now actually have an effect on damper forces that can be seen on the dyno. And you should be able to actually feel an adjustment.
But the range of adjustment claimed by D2 (36 positions) is not true.
In reality, only the first 6 positions have an effect.
This is not uncommon in the performance shock world. But only 6 of 36 positions is the largest gap of effectiveness I have seen.

I feel there is an opportunity to make the adjusters work more in a larger range with more development. And will require some prototype parts.

Next item:
Been thinking about the cost to repair and revalve the D2 struts.

Service would include:
Repair the adjusters- so they function.
Make mods to reduce the system friction
Re-seal and change the oil.
Install a normal Schrader valve for nitrogen charging.
Re-valve for a more normal performance street and track level.

For $250 + shipping cost

(Things like shaft damage, worn bushings, and Extreme dirt. And hard parts would be extra).

There is still the mater of sway bar tabs that need to be addressed.
We could buy extra spring seat jam nuts from D2.
And weld a spacer into the original threaded bar mounts. So they no longer are have pinch bolts. And then lock them with the new jam nuts.

Or D2 claims to have a revised wider pinch style bar tabs.
But I would not use them until I ran them on the dyno first to confirm they add no system friction.

anyone figure out the fronts? I remember the rears were the 3kGT but the front's are really short.

for about $125 plus shipping you can get a new strut from d2.

I know I can buy a new strut from them, the point is I want a better valved unit than the factory unit. I have had these coilovers since 06 when I bought them from a member who had them for a very short period of time. I might just contact that guy and see when he isn't too busy.
