Hyperco Gen. 2 VS Road Magnet
I know about the definitive suspension thread, but I'd like to know your opinions. I currently have a set of Hyperco's, waiting to be installed in a Koni B15 setup (as of now), but since the rear inserts will probably be too stiff for them, I might change them, or switch to RM if they can handle the stiffness better, or have better handling. The car's planned to be a DD/WW, f.y.i..

So, Hyperco Gen 2's vs the Road Magnets.

Pros?
Cons?
Difference in feel?

Which setup would *theoretically* be best with Koni only, or Koni Front, and KYB AGX rears?

Hypercos:
Pros:
Non-linear damping. With proper setups this can be very beneficial. They are not too stiff so they are nice for daily driving.
Cons:
Rare, used, expensive. Most sets you find will have probably 5+ years worth of use and they are quickly snatched up when they go for sale.

Road Magnets:
Pros:
Readily available and cheap. I got a set from Rob Chaos for $230 a couple of years ago. Linear damping. Very predictable damping on a track.
Cons:
Linear damping. Stiffer for daily driving.

Comparison:
I have ridden on both types of springs. I can tell you, RMs are stiffer then Hypercos on the road. If you desire a smooth ride and don't mind spending the dough, go with Hypercos. If you desire a stiffer spring, for a bit better track car setup, and to see your girlfriend's boobs jiggle even more, go with RMs. On the plus side, if your girlfriend has really big knockers she will probably end up complaining about them hurting from all the jiggling, and you get to cop a feel by offering booby messages after a ride in your car!

For a street driven car, Hypercos are the best feeling spring I have ever felt.

That is an excellent summary.

I have Hyperco/AGX (and all the trimmings). Very comfortable, works great on the street, worked A-OK for me at Roebling Road. I do NOT want anything stiffer, but I am old - lots of injured body parts, and cannot wait to get CSK's for even more comfort on the streets. All while maintaining a very "track-able" if less linear suspension than Road Magnets. For me, Hyperco/CSK will be my ultimate suspension and when I get the CSK's, my suspension modification is done.

I agree with the above except I'll add that I personally wouldn't want anything less stiff than the RM's for daily driving. They are quite soft as it is. I understand the progressive rate of the Hyperco springs eventually ramps up and provides a stiffer rate after a bit of body roll, but for my money the RM's are the one to buy even for daily driving. Unless you have hemorrhoids or are over 40.

At the end of the day, the compression damping settings of the Koni or AGX struts will really be the thing to determine the comfort of the ride.

The irony of this statement makes my head explode. Those shocks have almost no compression dampening (most oem and off the shelf are the same also) and the adjuster is for rebound with some crosstalk to compression. Very very little compression change with adjustment.

^^ older folks like Shawn may want the softer ride, so Hyperco would be better for them!

young folks like you(ben not Nate) and Vadim can handle more stiffness.

M0J0, you might read this thread for more in depth explanations: http://www.sr20-forum.com/suspension/24698-opinions-wanted-those-agx-road-magnet-setup.html

Nate, you might read it too as I think you've read much too much into my post. What you've explained is covered with actual AGX shock dynos in that thread.

The AGXs are stiffer than the Konis?

The AGXs have a worse ride than the Konis (not to be confused with stiffer). The Konis (depending on which you use) are basically superior in every way including performance and ride comfort.
