some advise
so for a while i have been running napa remanufactered axles, on my lowered b13, i have ksports that i got threw the group buy here on the forum. like every 3 months i keep breaking the inner drivers side boot. i dont have any plastic covers under my car. is that a reason i could be breaking axles?

now i know a lowered car can put stress on the axle, but my MAIN question is should i buy a NEW axle instead of another reman. are new axles better than a reman?

i know i should prob raise my car up more but i really want that to be my last option. i have ksports so i figured that it wouldnt put that much stress on the axle.

let me know what you think i should do.

get another reman axle and plastic undercovers
get a NEW axle and undercovers

thanks

so i talked to some people and they said the boots are the same remaned or new.

so now my question is the reason my car is going threw so many boots b/c of no plastic undercovers

or

b/c i need to raise my coilovers...

How low exactly?

Anything more than a 1.5" drop and you are seriously stressing the other suspension components and/or not allowing them to work properly. Or both.

No.

I have had zero of the OEM-plastic cover-things under my vehicle or wheel-wells for a very long time.

I *think*.....

OEM is typically better than a reman.

Raxles (an aftermarket shop) can work out an axle set-up that is better/stronger than OEM.

Both statements should be verified by someone more mechanically astute than myself.

How low is your car?

The coilovers themselves are not the culprit on a broken axle.

However, screwed-up suspension geometry from over-lowering our vehicles can easily cause havoc in the performance and longevity of the rest of your suspension.

Loaded question sir.

If, as I suspect, your vehicle is over-lowered, then you need to figure out if "looking cool" and having zero suspension travel is worth it to you to continuously wear out your axles. That is up to you.

my car is pretty low, there is ZERO fender gap, so i think your right about looking cool part, thats prob what the problem is just not sure how much higher i should go.. i dont know how low my car is but, im sure its the problem. thats the info i needed, not what i wanted to hear but its what needs to happen...

thanks

I can't believe a lowered car will cause the boots to tear. There's enuff room in the boot to allow for it...... IMO, yours may vary. Having the covers can only help, not hurt. Running over gravel, etc won't help either......

If you want to run your car that low and not mess up the axles you need to relocate the ball joint on the control arm. There are a few companies that are making control arms that have such a option. here is a link to a company that is making them. they may be more than you need but this is the only way to get the car low and not kill the axles. I know mike k made a custom set for his cup car so he could get it lower with out having to rebuild the axles after every race.

Mike it happens. I had to replace the axels on the car we worked on because the previous owner had the car too low and ruined the axels.

My axle boots rip because the car is lowered on cheapo springs and the cotter pin on the balljoint cuts the axle boots up

I keep hearing about people having axle problems with serious lowering. Seems to be an issue on the b14 and b13..
