Thread: Why is my rear sagging: Hyperco's

Ever since I installed Hyperco Gen II's and Konis (yellow in front, reds in rear), my car's stance has always been weird, and I don't like it. The rear of the car sits a full inch lower than the front (measured at the top of the wheel arches), it almost looks like the rear wheels are tucked. What could cause this? It can't be because I put the front springs in the rear as the front would be sagging if the lower spring rate was in the front. The part numbers on the strut housings are correct (55303 69Y00 and 55302 69Y00R), and the rear heights for both wheel arches are the same, and so are the front's. Looking at other B13's with Gen IIs, I don't see the same stance. I moved my battery to over the rear wheels, but that shouldn't be causing so much sag. What could be causing this? I have the suspension off the car right now, so I can take pics if necessary. I installed these myself, so installation error might be an issue (although I've been driving it like this for about 3 years without issue). The sagging has been since day one. my car sat just bout 1/2" taller in the fron with hyperco genII's if you measured the wheel well but if you looked at the car on level ground it had no rake what so ever. the cars molding was level to the ground even tho the wells measured a little different.

That's exactly how I would expect a B13 to look with your suspension. The rear always looks lower than the front because the rear wheel arch is much lower in the rear than in the front. Measuring that way won't get you an accurate reading on how level the car is. Measure to the body line that goes under the door handle instead.

It's an optical illusion and while it's annoying to look at, it is "correct".

What other cars are you comparing it to?

I think the car looks fine.

The rear wheel is almost tucked with nothing in the trunk. With things in the trunk, the wheel is actually tucked, and it looks like I'm driving around doing a wheelie. Shawn, I hope it is OK to use one of your pics... Shawn's car with the Hypercos looks much more balanced than mine:

It's all in the angles. I don't think there's much difference (if any) between your car and Shawn's.

Edit: After taking a look at your first picture and Shawn's car I can definitely see the difference now. The gap around Shawn's rear tire stays constant between the tire and the body work. Not so on your car.

Do you have shortened strut bodies?
Do you have a picture of your car from the driver's side so we can compare rear wheel arch height with the fuel filler door?

These are the standard Steve Foltz CSKs. Now, I have reds in the rear and yellows in the front. The yellows are from the spec V and I needed to put washers on the strut tower to get them to fit properly. However, that shouldn't have affected the rear, right? The rears are the standard B13 Koni reds.
I'll have to access my external HD later today to see if I can find a pic from the driver's side. The only one I can find is at a bad angle:

I retract my previous statement. Something isn't sitting right with your suspension. I don't know much about B13's, or the CSK setups. Was the common recommendation that the front should be Koni Yellows?

EDIT: Also, ShawnB's picture is from a further distance, and studying his stance has me convinced that his front is slightly higher than his rear, as well.

I too see Shawn's front fender-to-tire gap is larger than his rear, but Isfahan's is even more-so in the rear. Reminds me of my RM/AGX setup actually which is maybe why I'm thinking it looks "normal".

Isfahan that picture of your driver's side is good enough. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't rear wheel arch differences between the years that no one ever noticed (the e30 crowd had this problem).
