installing extended studs?
I recently picked up a set of ARP extended studs and will be installing them this upcoming month.
But I'm not sure what I have to do to complete the task. I've heard there are several methods, some easier than others and some safer than the others.

So what way do you recommend installing these 3" long wheel studs?
Thanks

Do you have your brake dust shields in place still, or are they removed?

If they are removed, you can install the studs without doing anything other than removing the wheels.
If you still have the brake dust shields you'll probably have to remove the brake caliper/rotor in addition to the wheels to get the right amount of room to play with.

Hammer out the old studs with good, strong blows with a heavy hammer. You can protect the threads with a lug nut on the end if you plan on saving them.

New studs can be put in with a few different methods. I wouldn't bother trying to press them in or anything fancy like that. Either hammer them in from behind with an air hammer if you feel like it, or simply put the studs in loosely and then tighten them with a lug nut and a washer to pull them into place. I've done about 30 of them that way and never had any problems.

Nut and washer works best imo.

I have the break shields on in the back, but I can remove them for the install.
Sounds easy enough.

I'll tackle this job very soon.

IIRC, that rear dust shield is a PITA get off. Your probably better of cutting a slot into it...washer and nut def easier not much room to hammer back there.

I do believe there is already space in the shield to fit a stud through without cutting a slot out, but I got rid of my shields 6 years ago and can't recall.
