Shawn, in trying to find some info I've found a couple forums with shock dynos posted for KSport / D2 / BC Racing / Megan Racing dampers (I'm not saying for sure they are all the same*) and the charts seem have been removed from the Internet. I've found the links and checked with the Internet Archive and it doesn't have anything either.

=/

*I believe the theory is that they are all the same because the spring rates offered by KSport, D2, BC and MR for their street and race kits are all the exact same and they all have "32 setting" adjustment.

Thank you sir for the information/theory.

I know, for a fact, that KSport and D2 stuff is the same and manufactured in the same plant.

I will continue the search, although I highly doubt I can be any more effective. Your computer skills are just a tad better than mine.

However, I will place a phone call to BC Racing (Monday/Tuesday) and the rest of those...ahem.... manufacturers (*cough* re-branders), see if anyone will give me the honest scoop. Most times the manufacturers (loose term) will not give the facts as it is "insider/confidential" information (like spring rates on platform-specific aftermarket springs).

IF these Megans are really a clone of KSports and D2's, then we actually have plenty of information on them (the whole lot of clones) for folks to make an informed decision before they buy.

I would like to add that there is a correlation between a smooth ride and a well made damper. Many assume a harsh ride means "race" which is not the case. A well made damper will feel better on smooth and over bumps, while maintaining balance much more effectively. It has to do with maintaining contact with the road surface and how it dissipates energy from road irregularities. Many of you would be surprised how "soft" a heavy spring can feel with a damper to suit it.

That said, I am glad we are having a discussion, because I for one would like to know if the coil overs in question here are decent or not. For those of you who are criticizing us for questioning the build quality...sorry but it's not hurting anyone to discuss it. I guess we should all just be a huge happy family of compliments and ignorance. One of the reasons the board is so strong is our ability to analyze others setups, it's how us performance minded folks get our jolly's on.

VQ was kidding/joking with you and being sarcastic. He agrees with your initial statement.

What you are hearing is folks that *think* these Megans are the same as KSports, D2's, and the rest of the clones, produced out of one (1) factory (in Taiwan according to Prodrifter). Then they are simply slapped with a new color scheme, sticker, packaging and corresponding vendor. Same "known" suspension, different box.

Which may or may not be the case.

So what do you guys think of factory cut springs on factory struts?

^I think of a wannabee import GT probe with a crap ride. I know a guy that owned one and it was a very sh*ty ride. On our cars, never road in one like that, but first thing that comes to mind is "don't cut your factory springs on factory struts" from what I have read on the OG board lol.

When I see a full coilover setup that holds up to 9 road course events countless of auto x events and 60000 + miles of DAILY DRIVING (bumps, 1 accident, potholes, etc.) I will be impressed and jump ship to those coilovers. Until then, I will be happy with mine and recommend them to everyone that asks me about coilover setups.

I have seen cheap coilovers fail under 7k miles and 10k miles.

FAIL!!!
