That was my point.
I would be worried about my cranium in a street car with a cage and no helmet on my skull. The cage itself could be more dangerous to my head than the initial wreck (of any sort) and impact.
You could pad the sh*t out of the cage where it is near your body. However, I don't know how effective that would be. *Seems like* it would be as good as a "padded dash" or any other interior surface that is metal covered with OEM materials.
Nissan certainly did not "pad" the damn auto-seatbelt hunks of solid metal at the upper rear window corner of our doors. And those are certainly within "bashing distance" of your skull. (Which is one reason why I did the "B14 Seatbelt Conversion.")
