Help?
I recently did the nx brake upgrade on my b14. The brakes work great but now I have a very loud "scratching" sound whenever the car is in motion. I thought that I had not done a good enough job cutting away the stupid dust shield but I fixed that today and it is still the same. The noise does not get worse when the breaks are applied and it is definitely coming from both from wheels. Should I attempt to take the dust shields completely off and how would I do that for that matter? They seem to be bolted in behind the hub assembly. Could I have screwed up both wheel bearings at the same time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is the shield on the pads, mine did the same thing.

The dust shield? I pretty much killed that thing down to a nub of what it was.

I am confused. What shims? I did not have any shims to install when I did the swap.

jack front of car up,
use engine to spin wheels,
if stratching still there, probably something to do with brakes.
if not there, probably the wheel bearings.

You should install some shims...maybe they will fix it? I've never installed brake pads without the shims...

Are you talkng about the thin metal things that attach to the bracket and keep the pads tight? I have those and they were put in and greased to avoid noise.
