Use one of these: You can rent something similar from AutoZone/Advance/etc. I have replaced the ball joints in my OEM control arms with MOOG on multiple SR powered cars using this tool with zero issues.

Is it worth it to buy a kit instead of renting one?
I guess so because now my ball joints have been afraid to go bad again. They know the tools are always sitting there waiting to replace them.
If you go through a lot of different cars I would buy a kit. Otherwise just rent one. You shouldn't have to replace ball joints very often unless you have other suspension issues (worn dampers, etc)
Apparently you have nothing to offer this thread other than a negative comment. So I'm assuming this is only opinion, based on your particular experience or your're repeating what you've heard, with no basis of fact.
