As far as MOOG balljoints are concerned, I can tell you 1st hand that you cannot use the AUTOZONE kit they give you and press them in. There is no disc in their rental big enough to go around the base of the balljoint.

It doesn't go around the base... It goes around the top and pop's it out the bottom.

Like I posted before.. It's not that hard to get them out.. Mine where in and out in 10 mins.

This is the kit I rented for autozone...And I used the long one on the far right and had no issues at all. And that was the first time I did it.. So I don't know what to tell you all..

You keep mentioning popping them out. We are talking about keeping them in. Anyone can pop out a balljoint with a BFH. The kit you are picturing is not the kit my Autozone rents.
This is the kit that Autozone rents. Anyone who has rented one can testify to it
As I said earlier, I have done this 1000 times with other brands of balljoints, but you cannot use those disc that Autozone has in the kit on a MOOG balljoint. I am not as novice as you may think. Your pics URL is not even Autozones, so I do not even know if you are telling me the complete story.

You see where my thumb and index finger is? Thats where you are supposed to press the balljoint in. The disc provided with most kits are made to be pressed in resting o nthe base of the balljoint which is FLAT. Thats why you cannot press MOOGS in conventionally.

Interesting, because I installed a set of Moog ball joints in B13 arms last night, with that exact kit. No issues, no tack welds.

OK, but tell me what balljoint was in the control arm before you put in the MOOG?
If it wan't a MOOG in there before you cannot comapre. And what disc did you use? Maybe I am just a complete idiot? Maybe Me and GSRMx are just on another planet?

I'm guessing stock. I used the disc with the concave part on the back of the joint and the other one with the smaller tube on the threaded part. I used a normal rachet without much force also.

That sounds right. I was going to reuse their kit with delicate force as well, but when I saw that the MOOG->MOOG was not going to work, I had to get it tackwelded. There was no other way it would sit in the seat of the control arm. It fit like one of those BJ's that don't work the first time round.

moog oversizes it for a reason, the factory uses a press fit ball joint obviously. You cannot safely "press fit" in the same size ball joint twice. You run the risk of the ball joints backing out. There have been many stories of this on the list and on sr20forum. Hence why the dealership sells the control arm and the ball joint as a set.

I replaced the balljoints on my car once, but next go round, I will replace both control arms as a set. Everytime you replace them the hole will strectch just a little bit more.

Not really.. just have to rent the extractor from advanced. Other than that it wasn't that bad at all. Bitch part is getting the spindle off the OEM ball joint.

Moogs are fine... I don't see any reason to pay the price of a new control arm for one ball joint. To me that's just stupid and a waste of time.

What kind of extractor did you use?

....dont care thread is old
