A good answer.

However, all those "good answers" do not really help. Further, without additional information from Nathan 33, there is no "excellent answer" to his inquiry.

Nathan33, please read through the "Struts" section of this thread:

http://www.sr20-forum.com/suspension/1801-b13-b14-b15-suspension-information.html

Afterwhich, answer the following questions sir:

1) What are your exact uses for the vehicle? Daily driver? Taking Grandma to the chiropractor? Road race vehicle? 1/4 mile terror? Auto-cross? Rallying? Top speed runs on the Utah Salt flats? Carrying your three (3) 290-pound friends down potholed, dirt roads, to football practice?

2) What is your budget?

3) What springs are you going to utilize? OEM? Hyperco? Road Magnet? Other? Tell us exactly which springs you are using now, and/or what springs you are looking at purchasing to mate up with these new struts.

4) What wheels and tires are you using? Do you have any other suspension modifications? If so, list them all.

Once you read the "strut and spring" sections of the Suspension Thread, and provide answers to my four (4) questions, then we could actually steer you in the correct direction. Give you an "excellent" answer instead of a "good one."

All of these gentlemen answering are very smart, they know more about the actual workings of your suspension than myself, and can out-wrench me to death. No questions about it.

However, without further information from you, all you will recieve is "general" advice, that is not specific to your individual requirements.

Read the sections of that thread as indicated, answer all my questions in full, and you will recieve plenty of "excellent" and "application specific" advice from these helpful and mechanically astute individuals. Which will be a hundred times more valuable than the "good" advice presented.

Thank you very much for that link and the right questions to answer Shawn B, like always you're the man!

This is on a '97 200SX.

1) Main use is daily driver.

2) I don't have a set budget, just nothing too expensive.

3) The car currently has Eibach Pro-Kit springs

4) Wheels are 16" American Racing Estrella's wrapped in Toyo FZ4 205/40ZR16 83W
Nothing else major, just strut tower braces.

I can not get just strut inserts, the mounting bracket portion is broken. It is hard to describe, pictures of the damage will be up once I start taking it apart in the next few days.

Thanks for all the help guys, and especially to you Shawn B for helping me give you guys the info needed to best apply your knowledge to my situation.

Go to the junkyard and get 2 OEM housings - probably $20. Also, try to get some OEM springs since the Pro-Kits won't help any of the struts you install.

No problems.

I just looked at your original question and thought...."that depends....."

That will work.

With one clarification.

Friendly guy, reasonable information I suppose.
*Note: Both types of Eibach springs for the B13 have been discontinued, they are no longer in production.

Still available for the B14 and B15:

B14 Sportline: 1.9" front drop, 1.9" rear drop
Struts To Use: Will not work well with any struts.
B14 Pro-Kit: 1.4" front drop, 1.4" rear drop
Struts To Use: *CSK's only for a daily driver, no OEM length struts.

B15 Sportline: 1.5" front drop, 1.4" rear drop
Struts To Use: *CSK's only for a daily driver, no OEM length struts.
B15 Pro-Kit: 1.2" front drop, 1.0" rear drop
Struts To Use: *CSK's only for a daily driver, no OEM length struts.

You guessed it, the spring rates are not available from Eibach. Then I found this:

Car Front Rear Source of Info
Sentra SE-R: 150 front, 80 - 180 rear Eibach*
NX2000: 160 front, 80 - 180 rear Eibach*
200SX SE-R: 160 front, 137 - 257 rear NISMO catalog

* Kit Wetzler asked an Eibach engineer directly

Which indicates that the Eibachs for all of our cars are both too low and too soft

The Pro-Kits will work just fine for a daily driver. However, you must utilize them with CSK's.

You could just buy GR2's to use with your OEM springs (if you still have them), call it a day, and have a fully working OEM suspension. Done right on the cheap. The GR2's will not work with your current Eibachs, nor the Hyperco or Road Magnet springs.

Your least expensive performance suspension options would be:

a) Purchase (or build your own) CSK's and use them with your existing Eibach springs and some Koni bumpstops. It would be quite good as a DD, you'd only lose 0.4" of travel, have much better than OEM struts, and the Eibachs are a bit stiffer (approx 20%) than OEM springs.

b) Buy KYB AGX's and pair them with either Hyperco or Road Magnet springs.

c) Buy CSK's and pair them with either Hyperco or Road Magnet springs.

d) Coilovers, and for that, you can read the Suspension Thread.

Laid out for you above, in order of expense top-to-bottom.

For a DD, I'd be very partial to using your ProKits with CSK's (and Koni bumpstops), then upgrading your springs (if you want to) later to either Hypercos or Road Magnets. You may find that the Eibachs and CSK's is perfect.

PrettyWhite loves his CSK/Eibach set-up on his DD NX. On NYC roads.

You must utilize these springs with CSK's only.

With OEM-length struts and the Eibachs you will lose too much travel (1.4" loss) and be riding on your bumpstops, which will also cause the premature death of your (new) struts.

No problems evident with those items.

Hope that helps.

that is the same setup I am going to be running. The price quoted was for spec v yellow inserts for the front that are externally adjustable and spec v yellows for the rear.
Crazy but the reds for the 14 are actually more expensive for the front and only a few dollars difference for the rears.

My opinion go with the spec v yellow up front and rear.
Wait for my build with my camber plates and rear solid mounts, it will be ideal.

Nathan33, if you can afford it, go CSK's. No question, except for your financial situation.

I really wish I had the money for the CSK's but in the current situation, and the fact that it will only be a daily driver I have decided to go back to stock springs and some Monroe Sensatrac struts.

Thanks for the offer, but a family friend works at an autoparts store and is getting us everything on her discount.

And on the quality of the strut, I don't know. Her store recommends them, and I was also under the impression that Monroe makes good stuff. I could be wrong though, I'm going to be doing some research before we install.
