Koni Warranty
Guys, how is the koni warranty on our shortened versions? I read on their warranty page that any modified part (like shortening them!) is not warrantied - has anyone tried before with success/failure?

You are following he koni instructions to shorten the housings. I do not see how this would void the warranty???

I think lowering springs void the warranty.

Just dont weld them into the housing and you will be able to return them for warranty.
Shortening the housings is a Koni application.

If you blow your Konis you have other issues though

They can tell when they pull the piston rod from the housing. If it is dented/etc they know the strut has been bottoming out. That occurs either when the suspension travel is too short (lowering springs) or the spring rate is not strong enough (in general).

For example, the setup that Benito has should never bottom out at reasonable heights. As in the springs should be fully compressed before the Koni reaches the limits of it's downward travel - that also assumes the springs can fully compress since the rates are very stiff (for a FWD Nissan). *I know this since I measured the setup - same measurements I believe I linked to you that time.*

Just install them like the threads state, use reasonable ride heights, and spring rates; and replace them when you wear them out in a 100,000 miles (or whatever that is in KM ) I believe Steve Foltz's old car finally had to have them replaced at about 80-100k miles (and that was with decent rates and track days).

So with hyperco's then, would I be screwed, or are they considered reasonable?

I think that is reasonable. The other way to think about it is, how much do the Hyperco's lower the car? Roughly 1" in front, if the shortening method lowers the entire insert 1"; then you still have the same travel, and the rod doesn't know what it was before. Does that make sense. The travel is the key.

I don't know but I'm pretty sure its in the fine print. I think if they are repeatedly bottomed out they can tell.

Dang'it Fosters got it before me. I think i left the window open all day.
