Fixing Polyurethane mounts? Prothane
My dog mount which is supposed to be polyurethane is burst on one side. Is there any compound that can be used to fix it?

It's not burst completely. Just a split on one side of the mount on the bottom right of the pic. The bigger piece:

Thanks.

Peace

Do you have a pic of the actual mount up close, so we can get a better idea of whats up.

Also is the damage on the lip that keeps the mount from falling out?

I ask this beacause there is a spot on the lip about as big as a pencil tip missing from thye set i have. It's a very small pin prick or bigger, i guess it was form when they were molded by prothane.

do you have all 4 mounts installed? How the heck did that happen. Why dont you just buy back the dog mount inserts. oh snap, I can get one for you. I got a kit for a frend of mine and he didnt use the dog mount.

Think it's my bad driving habit. Practising to launch since I got some tips from Blo0d.

Will get some pics up soon.

All mounts are in except the gearbox mount.

It has a split on either side of the hole on the bigger part of the dog mount.

@ Reedom. yes I am gonna want that insert.

pm sent.

Thanks

if you are refering to the driver side mount causing the issue, i highly doubt that. The rear crossmember mount is the one that sees the most stress as energy is transferred there from launches and whatnot. Remember, the motor is transverse.

What kind of ****ery assumption that?

The gearbox mount is the only stock mount so how could it cause that? It's the weakest mount so if anything it should be the one that goes!

Here are the pics:

This is the side that has the split - at the bottom of the big piece near to the small piece/insert:

This is the other side of the mount - good:

Wha you mean wah kinda ****ery argument that. what kinda ****ery reasoning you deh, have checked to see if the gearbox mount is dammaged

if everything else is urethane except the gear box mount then that will be the weak spot, but it will exert more stress on the dog mount and the rear mount as it allows movement of the engine that he urethane cannot allow. With urethane, it wont allow much movement, before it does that it will break or crack. rubber on the other hand is very flexible and will move a lot with out cracking or bursting. I am sure if you check the rear mount, it will be damaged too. That is why its recommended that you install the entire kit. but unu nuh effin smarter than the man dem wah mek the mount inserts dem man so unu dont listen to the recommendation of the manufacturer.

Since the GB mount is weak and is rubber it flexes as rubber does so the engine still moves or swing on the pivoted 58 mount. now the dog mount and rear mount that dont want to allow any movement and that will not flex is under more stress and hence after a while they break.

That mount front bracket has been installed wrong - upside down.
