Installing pads with a clip missing
Is this as bad of an idea as I'm thinking it is?

I just got a set of nx2k calipers, and only 3 clips. I'd like to get this done this weekend, but this just seems a little sketchy to me. I know not all cars have clips holding the pads in, but they're designed not to run with the clips, whereas these are. Also, would my 1.6 b14 clip fit it? I haven't taken it apart yet and I doubt it will but it'd be nice.

I wouldnt do that. Those clips hold the pad into the caliper. You can try the other ones, wouldnt hurt unlike if you didnt run them at all.

You can order a new set of metal brake hardware from Autozone or Rockauto. Some of my metal clips had some broken pieces and I ordered 2 new sets myself.

Done. Sucks I was hoping to do the install today, didn't notice it was missing one until I got my pads in from GSpec. Guess it'll be next day off.

It does suck but cutting corners is never good, especially in car work. I am glad you are doing it right. Good luck with it all.

Yeah man. Sorry again for not even checking when I got those pads. I just cleaned them up and painted them... :/

But getting new ones will guarantee a nice fit for your car. Keep me posted.

New ones are ordered, they should be here tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the install done this weekend.

I got axxiss ultimates pads and centric rotors as well as genuine OEM nissan tune up parts as well.

GregV said they're nice, but I've heard they dust a little more then some like. My car is just my DD (its a 1.6 as well) so it shouldn't see to much hard braking. The 1.6 calipers and rotors did stop me in time to let the 3 deer get across the road on my way home from work tonight though.

Brandon. If you're talking about the flat metal clips that hold the pad in place, yes you need those.

If you're talking about the wire clips that push the pads away from the rotors, you don't need those. My axxis pads didn't even have holes to accommodate them. I was told by another member that the runout would keep them off the rotors. They appear to have been correct.

If you haven't ordered already...

They are well worth it. I've had a set on my dd (b14, slotted nx2k rotors, stock lines, stock mc, rear drums) and they have performed very well, with absolutely no drama. They do dust a bit, but it doesn't accumulate fast enough to be a real headache. Also, you do kind of have to be aware that they need to warm up a little (1-2 stops max). I've had a few times where i've forgotten this and had to make a quick stop... kind of scary.

All in all, they're great pads.

I swapped them in June 2006, put about 50-60k miles of abuse on them in a little less than 3 years, and i am getting ready to put in a fresh set today or tomorrow.
