Really basic b13 question
Hi:

I'm looking at buying a '93 Sentra 4-door. I want something cheap, not particularly flashy, but decent-looking, that gets decent gas mileage. But I also want it to handle decently. I do NOT want to lower it, because I need the ground clearance.

Is there any reason I can't replace the shocks & struts with shocks and struts for the SE-R model? As I understand it, they have a stiffer spring rate, and the suspension is otherwise the same. Will they just bolt in?

Same question for anti-roll bars.

Thanks for any help!

That's a yes, and yes.

I think some (XE?) came without a rear torsion bar so you might have to buy mounting hardware for the rear if that's the case with your car. The difference between the front torsion bar on the SE-R is that it is solid, where the others are hollow. They are the same dimensions though.

I remember reading that the SE-R suspension springs are maybe 15% stiffer than the other Sentras.

Thanks. Nice looking SE-R, by the way.

While you're at it, the front torsion bars on the SE-R are known to brake through the stock washers that are part of the mounting hardware. You should either get the ES bushing kit that comes with upgraded washers (still available?), or source some thick ones from somewhere else.

this is your best bet.

buying used se-r suspension will get you nothing as it will be blown.........worthless. replace all 4 corners with GR-2 shocks these are just a hair stiffer than stock se-r shocks and considered OEM replacements. then replace all bushings with ES polyurethane bushings. get koni bump stops. front and rear strut bars of good quality. then get an se-r front sway bar and a progress rear sway and you will have yourself a damn fine little 1.6 sentra

i think you are thinking about the E model that was sans the rear sway. however you may be correct. and yes. grab a set of se-r stock springs. paired with GR-2's you will be very happy.

Great. How about 14" wheels? Is there a good source? I was thinking I could go to 185/6014s. Is this worth it? I have a bit of money to throw at this project.

You can get stock B13 SE-R wheels.
Or NX2000 wheels but those are 13s.
I have stock springs and wheels. PM me if you want.

^NX2000 wheels are not 13's if that's what you were implying. they are in fact a little wider and have more clearance which is why people will run them when they upgrade to AD22VF brakes.
