Ill PC the housings, offer different cartridge options, maybe hit up QA1 for some sleeve over kits, and make them work with my camber/caster plates?? Sounding better

I don't think it sounded bad in the first place. The issue is that the various Inserts are various diameters and as such the housings would vary in diameter making anything but pre-packaged basic setups somewhat difficult but not impossible. I would suspect that QA1 would only be willing to do a run of housings in volume and you would be restricted to a certain diameter. I do not think that is a viable cost effective option as people will not want to pay for them unless they are doing an 8611 setup. Granted I still like the idea even though other companies offer these housings.

PC'd housings is nice, I built pretty much what you are talking about when I made my setup except I simply used JB weld. You have not mentioned the mounting nut that holds the insert in the housing, have you looked at a setup to see this? Plenty of ways to get creative.....

Also look at Koni's parts bins. They offer sleeves and perches, I used them when I made my setup, they are (IMHO) superior to the GC sleeves and perches and can be purchased from Koni.

No but that is def something to look into, it seems as though most of our business is for suspension components and it is what I like to design most ....

As far as the differing diameters ... how is it handled now? Are you boring out the entire assembly or having them made at the specified id?
I can make the assembly if needed, I was going to use the QA1 sleeve over kits or better yet if I was going to make the assembly I would just thread the od.

As you can see there are so many choices for these setups. I think Ill start with a standard street setup that will include:

Front: 8610-1409 Sport
Rear: 80-2838 Sport
Custom shortened housings
ES bump stops
ES isolator bushings
ES dust boots
Solid rear mounts w/ or w/out spherical bearings
Solid front camber or camber/caster adjustable mounts


Now WES dont jump on me but if the casing on the shocks/struts are thick enough can we just thread the od of the housing for coilover setups??

No way I'll jump on ya.... I like your thinking in terms of component design.

Use Koni bumpstops, ES sucks by compairson. Currently the different diameter inserts are handled by getting the right OEM donor housing. B13, B14, Maxima, all are used in different applications to accept the appropriate insert.

I have yet to see a housing where the OD was thick enough to be threaded although if you were making a custom one that would be ideal and was the idea I wanted to implement if I ever built my own 8611 setup. The downside is the amount of machining involved to make the housing large enough to thread them for perches yet reduce the diameter below the threads to save weight. This will also depend on which inserts you use and what spring diameter is used.

I would really start with a modest setup like you mentioned possibly using the Spec V Yellow Inserts as they are mild enough for street use yet can handle a pretty decent spring rate.

So I just got off the phone with Koni and this is what I found out.

Just some info:
Rear: Both need to be removed for adjustment
SpecV rear (yellow): 80.2838Sport Min 280mm Max 406mm
B14 rear (red): 8040.1220 Min 299mm Max 414mm

Front: Yellow's externally adjustable and reds need to be removed
SpecV front (yellow): 8610.1409Sport about 0.25" shorter and softer then B14 reds
B14 front (red): 8640.1354

In order to run the yellows out of the SpecV you have to buy the lower spring seats and clips that will run about $50 total. The yellows are also not externally adjustable, they adjust just like the reds. The tech at Koni motorsports also recommended 3/4 turn for my eibach setup.

So red's is it on the rear.

For the front they yellows out of the SpecV are actually softer then the reds but offer external adjustment. He also recommended these at 3/4 turn on the reds.

Well I guess I just need to determine if I want to go yellow up front?? The red and the yellow will both fit the front B14 housing without internal boring.

Ill probably end up going yellow up front due to the external adjustment.

Hope this helps for the guys wanting a nicer riding dd on lowering springs.

Now your cooking with gas. I believe I mentioned the adjustment stuff in your other thread (about the rears needing to be removed). If you want even more spring rate you can research the maxima inserts, people have also used those on B13/14 cars...

I have Maxima's in the front and B14 Fronts (in the rear) on my NX. All are reds. I would run externally adjustable setups if/when possible - it will also help with marketing since people won't have to pull their setups.

I documented my install/setup on the old forum like Wes did.
