AGX question
OK, so I'm a some what broke college student, my B13 previously had tokicrap HP struts and springs (which i bought because i was uneducated at the time, and more broke) long story short, the struts are blown and MY car sits on jack stands waiting for some new suspension goodies. The long term plan is to Buy AGX's and HC or RM (which ever i can get my hands on), camber plates and full poly busing kit, this brings us to the questions...

Would it be safe for me to temporarily use the Tokico springs on the agx's?

besides the obvious performance differences between the HC and the RM, am loosing anything else? like damaging the AGX's

should i just wait longer and save more money till i can afford to buy good springs?

the sooner i get the SE-R on the road the better im currently driving a 93 grand pix, yuck....... bad on gas, no balls, no cool factor, and a shady transmission...

Thank you for any imput

I have driven on AGX, HCs, Konis, Pro Kits, and White Line springs in various combinations. I'm assuming that the Tokico springs are similar to, or worse than, the Pro Kits. Given your situation, I would suggest that you go back to stock springs if you are going to use the AGX now. Later, when you can get HCs or RMs, you will know that the AGX are in good working order.

I do not know what your goals are for your car. But unless you are going to be heavy into track days, you really will not need the camber plates. You can get enough camber in the front for street and occassional track use by slightly increasing the size of the mounting holes in the struts.

The money that you were going to spend on the plates would be much better spent on upgrading to Koni strut inserts which are, in my opinion, much nicer for both track and street than the AGX. In fact, if I were to start over with my daily driver, I would probably go with OEM springs, Koni inserts, and White Line bars front and rear.

I have some stock springs I can send you for the cost of shipping. Or you can come pick them up in Frederick MD. If you come pick them up, you can ride in a B13 with Konis and HCs, and a B13 with Konis and White Line springs.

Let me know via private message if you need the OEM springs.

hello, thx for the detailed response, the car is a DD, i plan to do some auto X this summer, but it wont be seeing any serious track time any time soon, How ever i do do allot of midnight driving out in the country, I have the full ploy kit now, and I am ordering the AGX this week..

so you recommend that i use the stock springs (my dad junked them w/o asking me) are the tokico springs realy that bad?

i prefer the lower stance but if performance will be compromised worse then stock by the tokico springs i want to use the stockers....

SO i assume that i would have better handling results with the stock springs then?

Perhaps. Some folks have used the "Other Springs" (non-RM or Hyperco) with OEM length struts for years at a time. Serban will tell you so. On the other hand, you are really stressing the hell out of your AGX's.

The only performance difference is between one being a progressive rate spring (Hyperco) and one being a linear rate spring (RM). You will not damage the AGX's with either spring set as they both drop the car one (1) inch, and they both have a very high (comparatively speaking) spring rate (vs. stock or the "Other Springs") which will keep you from bottoming out the struts.

Yes, or temporarily use the stock springs with the AGX's. Looks like BillC can hook you up. I gave away my stock springs to another forum member as well.

This man is suspension educated.

And Bill, you are correct on the details of the Tokico springs. Too low, too soft, very similar to the Pro Kits. 1.5" drop, 20-30% stiffer than stock.

The Tokico springs would work with the CSK's as a daily driver. Pretty White has a thread that addresses the issue of using *select* "Other Springs" with CSK's on a daily driver. The Tokicos, Pro Kits, and H&R's will all work OK with CSK's for daily duties. None of them however, will work with AGX's. No way, no how, no travel, bumpstop crashing ugliness.

With OEM length struts, the Tokicos are a freakin' hazard. There is a review in the Suspension Thread on the ills of the Tokico "Handling Package" (an oxymoron for the most part).

Please follow BillC's advice. NO Tokico springs with OEM length (AGX) struts.

For the cost of shipping, you will have your car back on the road, at the OEM stance height with OEM springs and AGX's. In much better shape than with the Tokico blues (aptly nick-named).

In the real-world, on everyday roads, you are absolutely correct.

The Tokico springs paired with the AGX's is begging to bottom out your suspension. Daily, all the time, to the dismay of your poor AGX's, and to the detriment of your car staying on the paved road.

Picture yourself late at night, briskly driving along some deserted country roads. You are in a corner, pulling some g-forces, and the Tokico springs bottom out on the *suprise* mid-corner rut. The suspension compliance goes to absolute ZERO as you crash the sh*t out of your bumpstops. Upsetting your handling, and you have little room for error with trees on both sides of the road.

Yeah, you could easily be calling a tow-truck to get you out of the weeds. Or worse.

Hope that helps.

thank you allot, this is why i love this forum, and the community, i have read the multi page review of all the suspension set ups for our cars a while back, sadly this was after i had the HP crap set already ordered....

WV's roads had reduced the tokico set up to a pogo stick like handling set up... hit a bump bounce for 1/4 mile... repeat...

as i have read, and saw a while back the best available price for the AGX was on performance peddler, i spent a hour searching the sight, now i cant find the struts individually, but not as a set.... can some one direct me to where they sell all four or should i just hit up the $397 ebay price??

I'm *pretty sure* that I paid $360 on a Group Buy a few years back. That ebay price looks pretty decent. You could check the Other Forum, pull it up with a search of the Group Buy section only, "AGX..." whatever in the title. Relatively speaking, there can't even be that many GB threads to begin with.

I think I'll quote you under the Tokico section in The Suspension Thread on that pogo-stick remark.

I personally would not risk my new AGX's with any aftermarket spring except for the Hypercos or RM's. Follow Billc's advice and take his offer on those OEM springs for now. You will certainly be much safer and not hopping down the road, nor in any danger of damaging your brand new $trut$. Save some more bucks and get whichever of the two Forum Exclusive springs is available (pre-owned, GB, whatever....), and do it right.

Tjones381 --

Your springs are boxed up and ready to ship tomorrow. Will probably go parcel post, so it will take a few days.

On a side note, Knuckleduster has Hyperco's and I have RM (both with AGX's). He's got not complaints about my RM's and likewise, I think his hyperco's feel great also. You can't go wrong with either is what I'm trying to get at.
