Now I'm thinking about doing it. Damn it.

It will have to wait until the suspension comes off one day far in the future.

Thanks for your input and the compliment Ben.

I *think* it's a terrific solution, it will give me some peace of mind on those strut mount studs.

Those new button head cap screws ain't going anywhere, threaded into place and affiixed permanently with the JB Weld. That should hold every bit as good as the "Nissan custom-designed-and-manufactured knurled strut studs."

Trust me when I tell you that you will NEVER find longer direct replacement, knurled studs. They don't exist, apparently Nissan had those custom manufactured when they designed the vehicle. The bastards.

I know I'm being goofy, but I am thrilled that I (with some serious help) could document a fix for the rest of the forum.

Who would have ever thought that the least mechanically inclined dude on this entire forum could bird-dog a clever, inexpensive, and duh-simple solution?

When I replaced my top hats I used the Monroe brand I think? They stuck out about 1/4" above the nut.Just replace the top hat you can get them at O'Reilys or Vato Zone.

What's up Sal? You're probably wondering where the hell is my Classic.

It is coming to you at Alberts on Friday of this week. With proper length strut mount studs in place. I'll be over to bug you on Monday afternoon.

I cannot wait till you get your hands on my ride. Foaming, sound deadening, and a kick-ass, no bullsh*t, done right, paint job.

And I am familiar with all the aftermarket strut mounts. Including those Cusco units.

A while back I authored a little thread on our suspensions. Which eventually got to be a "Sticky" on this forum and a "Technical Library" thread on another forum.

http://www.sr20-forum.com/suspension/1801-b13-b14-b15-suspension-information.html

If it has to do with our suspensions, it is pretty much in there. If you print out The Suspension Thread it comes out to eighty-one (81) pages.

However, my intention in this thread was to come up with a viable, mechanically correct, inexpensive fix for the OEM strut mount plates.

Shawn:

Where'd you get that red radiator hose? Better still, where did you get both of them? Looks like that red hose will fit a lot better with my turbo setup, than what I currently have installed.

I considered similar for my daily driver / track warrior turbo car and decided against them. I also decided against the rear pillow ball mounts as well, although the rears aren't as bad I hear.

The pillow ball mounts replace the factory rubber vibration insulation with a solid metal, spherical mount (these also might have camber adjustment). This makes for terrific road feedback and other benefits, but transmits all manner of road noise and vibration into the cabin and steering wheel. I wouldn't recommend these for Shawn's car (he also doesn't seem to want anything adjustable). They would, however be at home on a dedicated track car, and they probably do have extended studs.

Gracias! I am very pleased with the results. You nailed it, sweet and cheap.

Thanks for your input throughout the process.

Actually, I have more red silicone hoses that you cannot see. Like behind the engine, the water hoses(?). I think.

Perfectly stated.

You sir, are correct. I want duh-simple, OEM quality or superior, direct replacement parts for my vehicle. Fiddling with my suspension, or much of anything else, is not in my plans.

About the only change I will ever make to my current suspension is to swap out AGX's for CSK's. (The rest of my rather comprehensive suspension mods can be seen in my "'93 Classic Restoration" thread). Even in the future, when auto-crossing, or should I ever hit a road course, initially I would not want to mess with my suspension. I am confident that with the addition of CSK's, the car will hold its own reasonably well in either type of possible racing. Further, the suspension will be much, much, better than the drivers very limited skills.

Shawn, is it possible to tap the mount from the other side so the bolt goes in lefty tighty, righty loosey...that way, the nut, when tightened (lefty loosey, righty tighty), won't loosen the bolt....ie. no JB required...follow me?

Just thinkin' out loud, here....
