Thread: Inner tie rod end removal

I tried this before with a regular wrench and it was a PITA! There is any special tool made to do this job? Or any other way to do it?

I used 2 pliers. One to grab and the other to clamp it tighter and for more leverage. Worked like a charm.

yes they do make an inner tie rod end removal and installation kit. if you do suspension work it is worth it.

Yep! I'm planning to do some work to the suspension soon. I have to put new bushings, new tires and both inner tie rod ends. Also have to change the rack and pinion bushings. the problem with the inner tie rods is that there is no space to work under there. who sells this kit and how much is it?

how you did that? last time tried this on another b13 and i was a PITA, we tried to tight it but at the end was not tight enough.

any auto parts supplier offers the tool. snap on, matco, mac, otc, etc, etc. just depends how often you use it, how much you can spend and what quality you need. the otc set is not bad for the money. the kit will cost you more than the tie rod ends. they may loan them out at autozone if you only need to use it this one time. you are looking at over $100 for the otc kit i believe and that is the cheapest that i listed.

A very cheap way and relatively easy way to do this is to take a wire fence poll that's 2 in and stick the tie rod thru it till you at the lip of the inner take a hammer and bang the pole on the inner tie rod_(it creates a socket with the pole.give it a good twist and it will unscrew. Use the pole to tightn as well. Did it with a pole half hour both sides!!!!!
