Hypercos & Road Magnets install?
I searched the "other" forum and it seems like you are supposed to install the Hypercos tight coils up (front & rear). Any inputs on this matter?

I'll be also installing the road magnets on my brothes car and I see from the picture that they are also installed tight coils up. Inputs on this matter are also welcome.

Thanks guys.

P.S. Where is Jerry when you need him!!

Tight coils up.

Reason?

They are dead weight for the most part as they stay compressed almost always and don't contribute to the spring rate. They are only there to make sure the springs don't unseat themselves during fool droop. Since they are dead weight, you'd like that to be sprung weight, not unsprung weight.

The thought that you want the weight down low for a lower center of gravity isn't valid, as the benefits of this aren't as great.

Tight coils up, but most people will not be able to tell the difference. So; if you have a set installed the other way don't sweat it too much folks. I would not bother getting under the car to mess with it just to flip the springs.

Another question regarding the same subject. I'm not a track or auto X junky but I did choose this suspension for quality reasons ( No ebay crap ) is it that really necessary to trim the OEM bumpstops on the road magnets and hypercos???

BTW the OEM bumpstops that I have are the ones completly attached to the dust boot and they are nearly 2.5" .

^I remember you selling the koni bumpstops. Why not get some more for when you want to track or auto-x the car? I see BenFenner is subscribed to this thread. I'm sure he will have some input on the OEM bumstops.

I don't have direct experience with the OEM bump stops that are completely attached to the dust boots, but if they are anything like the removable ones (I bet they are the same) then they are actually excellent bump stops as far as material goes. They are the foam type, and similar to the koni bump stops. The only problem is that they are maybe 30% too long. I'd turn the dust boots inside out to get at the bump stop and cut off the top of the three sections (cut off one of the three) and call it a day. I actually wished I'd done that on mine instead of spending the money on the koni bump stops.

The stock removable bump stop is on the left.

The short koni bump stop (they sell others 10mm taller) is in the middle.
The konis were cut shorter by a tad (because everyone said to cut them) but they looked short enough to me so I only cut them a little bit. If you cut off the top of the stock unit, it should be the same height as mine.
When people say to cut the koni bump stops short, they are talking about the taller ones, not the shorter ones I bought.
Can't remember exact measurements right now but I think the "tall" konis are 60mm (I think) and the "short" ones are 40mm according to the next post.

40mm Long Progressive Soft for 16-20mm Rod.

^GoFastDepot description says this is what size you get when you order the koni's from them.

Also, I'm not sure on what you would have to do with the bumpstops built into the dust boots to MOD them, but GregV sent me a link of the dust boots WITHOUT the built in bumpstop. Those are the ones that are more ideal to have just incase they wear out.

^Red Circles. Thanks for the pic Ben.
