QuietCar

If I were you at this point I would take the extra step and apply this along with the foam and your car should be as quiet as a new Benz on the inside. I will be using this as well on my build.

Oh sh*t!

Ordered five (5) gallons of Quietcoat on 12/23/2008.

Sal will be spraying everything possible inside the vehicle. The entire trunk, floorpan, door panels, fire wall, IKEA braced backseat and parcel shelf, the insides of my door panels front and back, the inside of the parcel shelf, the roof, etc...etc...etc....

Gonna have the quietest interior and stiffest chassis possible (sans in-car bracing).

Further, in January, I am ordering CSK's to replace my AGX's.

Quiet, stiff, controlled, smooth-ass ride, with greatly elevated performance levels.

"Quiet, stiff, heavy ,controlled, smooth-ass ride, with greatly elevated performance levels."
Fixed that for you...lol
How much weight do you think you will be adding to the car after all the foam, and "quietcar" sound deadener?
The foam is probably light, but I know dynamat is heavy....I didnt see anything about weight on the website for Quietcar.
I am sure the benefits outweigh the added mass for you,but I was just pondering

Well, five (5) liquid gallons weigh eight (8) pounds per gallon. I just wieghed a gallon of water.

That makes forty (40) pounds of Quitcoat total. While wet. Once dry, the weight would drop significantly. Call it thirty (30) pounds of Quietcoat.

(BTW, I purchased, and won't be using, one-hundred (100) pounds of eDead. A mat-type sound deadener. Sixty (60) or seventy (70) pounds would do a hell of a job in a compact car. Tops.)

The Foamseal should wiegh about fifteen (15) pounds. It's foam.

I also added in an IKEA brace, call that another five (5) pounds.

Lost my sunroof, that I hated. Call that a loss of twenty-five (25) pounds off the very highest point in the vehicle.

Bought a PC-680T battery. Another twenty (20) pounds off the front end of my vehicle. Another horrible place in the front-wheel-drive vehicle for weight.

I am removing the crappy tar-like OEM sound deadener. A loss of another ten or fifteen (10-15) or more pounds.

Therefore, I am adding about fifty (50) pounds worth of chassis stiffener and noise reduction.

I have purposefully deleted sixty (60) pounds of weight.

Seems to me like my vehicle will be waaaaaay stiffer and quieter than OEM. With a zero (0) weight penalty. In actuality, a simple to acheive reduction of ten (10) pounds. This result, along with better weight distribution, when you look at my overall build.

Even if you factor in an extra ten (10) pounds over stock for the (planned) upgraded, high-quality, yet modest stereo (new headunit drives the four new mid-hi's, small self-powered subwoofer) system, I am still at about break-even on the weight.

Further, this is a daily-driver first and foremost. I plan on it excelling in every respect over the B13 in factory trim. That means every facet of performance, including daily comfort levels, NVH reduction, and a better sounding stereo.

You are correct, the benefits of the chassis foam and sound deadening far outweigh any neglible weight penalties.

I am copying your build to a degree, at least on sound-deadening. Yes, I want a much, much, more NVH-free environment in the cabin. Benz-like would be superb.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm gonna buy the 5-gallon size, and Sal is just gonna spray freakin' everything sprayable.

Awesome information. I would still have to discuss this with Sal at Alberts. I am already adding to my bill the foaming and the QuietCar.

Yup, I knew about those being offered.

Not for me, I have already e-mailed them and tried to phone them. No answer in either case. I definitely considered this for my restoration, but....

Where do I draw the financial line on a daily-driver?

Right where my wallet ends, I guess.

Aha....foam sample products have arrived. Sal and I are playing Play-Doh factory with this stuff on Monday. Camera in hand.

Foam products and the recipient:

I'll keep ya'll posted. And pics should be coming fast-n-furious here over the next few weeks. The vehicle is almost done at the mechanics shop.

please make a detaild log where you intend and do use this foam filler....readibng this whole thread makes me want to try this and the sound absorber....

FYI when I pulled the Tar out of my 200sx I weighed it at about 42 lbs. That tar is very dense and heavy if you didnt know. I figured that the B14 should come fairly close to the B13 in terms of amount of tar used.

Also another thing to consider for extra quieting is using the extra thik seals. I got mine from Precision Manufacturing. Its alot thicker rubber and quiets things down quite a bit over the stock seals. Only downside is you have to close the door MARGINALLY harder but its a null issue. I wasnt sure if you already ordered the new seals yet or not.

I would but the way I found them was that they worked right next to my work. I wish I could find them because they consolidated and moved to Ohio.
