Thread: Foam Filling the chassis......

Sheeit, with your questions answered, this is practically becoming a "How To...".

Those are the amounts of each product you would need. Pictures. Write-up. Links. Dollar amounts.

Hmmmmmm...................

What could I do to this thread to make it an actual "How To..." that would get posted in our Tech Library? Hmmmm.......any input on that?

Maybe another long post by me stating:

1) Buy the following....Gorilla tape (amount), U.S. Composites (amount), Handifoam, plastic funnels and tubing, etc...etc...

2) Remove the following from your vehicle. a) entire interior, b) fenders.

3) Wipe down and then tape off "X", "Y" and "Z".

4) Mix up "X" amount of product and dump it in "here."

5) Etc...etc...etc....

6) Blah, blah, blah......



Would that work? Make this thread a Technical Library worthy thread?

I just re-read this thread. I *think* it is pretty close to a step-by-step as it is right now. With all the information, including all past articles via links, included. Anybody could read the thread, buy what I just stated, and follow my pictures on taping and foaming.

Your thoughts?

Shawn, well as you know this thread already practically has everything needed in it. My only suggestion would be to make all of your great info that is in here to be condensed and made into one long post. That way it would save the time of reading through three+ pages and get the information in fragments.

Also, your post above with the list would be really helpful if someone wanted to just follow it and get things done rather then making their own.

I can't wait to get a nice clean shell to do this too!!!

shawn i must say this is a very informative thread and thank you for taking the time and spending the money to complete it.
I have been very interested in doin this to my awd-t pulsar and after reading your thread feel informed and confident in doing it as soon as i get the money to order the supplies need. I am goin to seam weld mine too, just as an added bonus!

I think your situation is a good place/time to give the foam another shot. I think most people get overwhelmed with the idea that the foam could damage their paint - if repainting, you have nothing to worry about.

I would think rocker panels, "A" pillar, "B" pillar, and "C" pillar would be the best spots to do it (if all of those places are accessible).

Off-topic: Shawn, if you want a non-sunroof roof you can have mine if you come get it - it is already cut off.

I've still been too lazy to do so.

I *think* I covered most everything. It is (still) a bit disorganized, but all the information is in this thread somewhere.

If you seam weld first, and then foam, that is about as stiff as I can possibly imagine someone getting their ride without in-car bracing.

I did the rocker panels, cross channel under the seats, the front rails, the A-B-C-pillars, and the channel around the roof.

As for the sunroof, that is gone as well.

Due to popular demand, I am going to turn this into an Official How To Thread.

It may take me a couple weeks to get everything in correct order and categorized. Bear with me as I organize the information to make this easy to follow.
