Thread: bumpsteer kit

with the redesigned stud a longer spacer was needed for the under side if you don't flip the ends. if you do flip the ends the long spacer is not needed.
(hint: it will only work one way)

Got my set in today as well. Thanks Chuck!

The only problem was the threads on one of the tapered studs wasn't cut clean and the rod end would not fit onto the stud. I had to slightly grind the extra metal off and cleaned it up with a wire wheel.

Everything else seems to fit well with a tight fit. Had to use a dead blow hammer to get those tapered studs into the spindles.

Now should there be some extra material sticking out of the top of the spindle? Part of the taper sticks out of the spindle by a 1/4" or so.

Think since my car only has a 1/2" of drop I can top mount the rod end but the bumpsteer gauge will tell me where to set the height at.

you shouldn't need to hammer the studs in, tightening them with a wrench should seat them just fine.

i don't know as this is kind of an experiment with a maxima. i am a little concerned with that much sticking out. can you take a picture?

Well I am not hard hitting it with a hammer. It is a soft non marring hammer, gentle taps to get it into the hub.





The taper sticks out by 4 mm. IDK how these are supposed to mount on the Sentra hubs.

This might be a change in hub height for different bump steer arcs for the B14 vs the A32.

going by the measurements you gave me, these should fit as well or better than the stock units.

put the big spacer at the bottom and torque these suckers down and lets see what happens

measure the thickness of the spindle where the stud goes through. it may be that this section is a little bit thinner on the maxima spindles

the bump steer is corrected at the pivot point of the ball. how deep/shallow the stud seats in the taper is not the determining factor.

Ok I tightened the taper down with the spacers and the rod end, there is still material sticking out of the hub.

Now can I machine down the extra material so its flush with the hub?

It looks like I will have to mount the rod end underneath the hub to correct the bump steer anyways.

you don't need to cut it down. i was just concerned, going by your measurements it shouldnt stick up.

I'm playing with it on my desk and am still kind of puzzled. I'm going to have the rod end on the bottom. This is what I figured out, but what do I do about the top side? I know I may be sounding like a noob, but I want to make sure I understand this before I start taking things apart. Thanks!

measure your bumpsteer before taking anything apart. you need a baseline measement to go from.

if you are mounting the tierod under the steering knuckle, the stud as pictured is correct. when you tighten the stud the taper will wedge in the hole. the other (large) spacer and nut are only needed when top mounting the tierod.
