Thread: bumpsteer kit

I'd like to know also. I am currently running your original bumpsteer kit, but I'd certainly prefer to run the updated design. I assume the new kit retains the original coupler and same spec 1/2-20 rod ends, correct? Any chance you could make a kit that doesn't include the couplers and the rod ends? I'd happily buy the whole kit again if I have to, but it doesn't hurt to ask anyways

I am being a curious customer right now. What is to benifits of a bumpsteer kit. I actually never heard of this product before.

Topdog, I'll try to explain the best I can what this kit does and why it is beneficial.

Basically, bump steer is a phenomenon you will run into if you have the suspension traveling through one arc and the steering rod traveling through a different arc. This is quite common on many cars because the suspension mounting points and the steering rod pivot points are not in the same places or in the same plane.

When the wheel travels up and down the steering rod on that side travels up and down in a different arc (in a different plane) which will cause the wheel to steer inboard or outboard depending on where in the arc the suspension is.

This means when one wheel goes over a bump it will actually experience a steering input one way or another even without you moving the steering wheel and in fact, the steering wheel won't move at all either.

This problem usually gets worse in cars that are lowered (certainly in our cars it does) and that is because the two arcs get even more mismatched as you lower the car. One helpful solution is to lower the outer tire rod mounting point to help get the two arcs back to a similar plane to help reduce or eliminate the artificial steering input the wheel experiences when the suspension goes through its travel.
