SE-Rs at 2011 RallyCross Nationals
The fourth SCCA RallyCross Nationals - from Tulsa, OK - is in the books, and the SE-R bunch did great.
SCCA veteran Brian Priebe won Stock FWD in a B13 SE-R, and his co-driver got third. A stock SE-R is pretty darn good at this sort of thing, and it's not surprising that the "Dash" is seeing more interest in RallyCross these days.
Bobby Jasan took an awesome second place in Modified 2WD. This was a very big class (23 drivers) with plenty of modded-out cars. His SE-R is basically just stock, with headers and exhaust, and most of the interior thrown out because the last owner let it get biohazard-grade moldy.
Behind the wheel of the G20, I finished 5th out of 13 drivers in Prepared FWD.
I had engine problems, and wasn't able to rev the engine past 4,000 RPM. I had a mid-RPM miss under load before the event, and it turned into a brick wall as the weekend went on. I had to short-shift into second and bog around the whole time. Suckitude.
Given the handicap, finishing one spot out of the trophies in an already underprepared and overweight G20 wasn't terrible.
I probably had a bad MAF or MAF ground, maybe TPS. I installed new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filter before the event in hopes it was a simple tune-up issue. I may swap parts off my SE-R and see what fixes it.
David Barker ran his GTi-R DET-powered B13 SE-R in M2. Transmission and wheel issues prevented him from getting a lot of seat time in the car this year, though. With 15" rally tires up front (hmm...would they fit?) and rally damper valving, it could be a pretty serious car.
