i have been looking at some tires to run at track events for my '05 specV. i am unsure of what to get and what compounds work best, as well as last for a while. what sizes do you run as well. i have been looking at the following in 235/40/17 to go on factory nismo rays/gram light 57c rims
any help would be apreciated thanks

toyo R888
nitto NT01
kumho V710

I would recommend NT01 (cheaper, last longer, but good) or Hoosier R6 (if you are going for time).

If you are just starting to do some HPDEs I would recommend StarSpecs or RS3 to start with.

And just to give you an idea... A preped M3 with Hoosiers that bumped it up into TTA was only .5 second faster than my TTB Miata with RS3s at the last time trial... He is a better driver with more experience than me too.

Ran into a dude who has the same car as you with the same wheels, has the NT01s and was running DE3 & TT today @ PIR. He was really impressed with the NT01s. For HDPEs wnwright recommended some excellent choices. If you are looking for another cheap but good choice the Kumho Ecsta XS works real well. Ran these for the 1st time today in DE2 & 3, damn good tire for the money as long as you bump up the tire pressure a bit.

you guys shaving the tire or running them "out of the box"? i have an extra set of the nismo wheels ill be putting these on, just looking for the best bang for the buck, that will work well on a road course...the car will most likely be under pressure when i start hitting some tracks, i already have cams/valvetrain, clutch/flywheel assembly...starting to piece together a turbo set up and looking into an osiris reflash

Only shave for tight competition IMO. I run tires from new to cords and go through several sets a year. I would rather have the life.

I have a set of new NT-01s that I was gonna try to autocross on,but I thought they needed some heat to work good.
I actually got a good deal on them too good to pass up.I figured they would only be good for roadcourse, not autocross.
Any input would be great...are these actually decent "cold" like autocross?

They do need some heat, but you can get that heat in on the 1st run or heat them up in skid pad before. Around here we get 4 runs back to back so if I have tires that need some heat I use the first run to put the heat in.

Good street tire, not competitive with tires listed from what I've seen. You can cross check SCCA and NASA national results to see what tires are.

BTW I've taken 4 sets of tires from new to showing cords in the last 12 months...
