Ok, but the real key is does anyone make a proper clutch-type diff for it or not? Without that, while the better gearing would be nice, it's a lot of money spent for a transmission I'd still have to tear down and weld.

Check with MadMatt, and get the diff he has in his car. Built by a guy named Steve Eckerich in NC. Matt can probably give you his contact info. He builds super diffs that would be awesome for rallying! I'm getting one done by him sooner or later. I have 3 cores sitting around waiting for the justification.

Tore down the front passenger side of the weekend. Ball joint was in bad shape, so ordering new ones and a spare in. Got the bushings out but need to get the sleeve out of the front. Arm is seam welded along one edge and partially along another, so I'll weld the rest.

It occured to me why we can't run a tube brace along the back side of the arm. The wheel will hit when it's turned. By the time you get a brace small enough to clear at full lock, the brace is too small to matter. So now I'm looking at partially boxing the arm to stiffen it up in addition to the seam welding.

I'll also be seam/stich welding the strut tower and connecting pieces in the wheel well while I'm waiting on the ball joint and finishing up the arm.

weld plate along the bottom of the A arm for the fronts is about the best you can do for extra strength up there. just make sure to make holes big enough for your sway bars etc.

Pretty much agree with you at this point. Sway bar isn't an issue though, as there won't be a front one on the car. The only thing is that I don't want to make the arms super heavy.

Sick as a dog today so likely no progress for a few.

Not much progress this week, but I'm feeling better so hopefully some real progress over the weekend.

Last night I did spend a little time knocking the metal sleeve out of the passenger fron control arm and then cleaned it up and seam welded it. Primed it and first coat of paint last night. Quick second coat before heading in to work this AM. Hope to toss one more on quick when I get home before I head out to the local SCCA region's annual banquet.

Then maybe I'll install the bushings and the new ball joint before I head to bed for the night.

Stitch welding needs to happen on that area chassis before the corner goes back together though.

Are you gonna put it on a spit roast for the undercarriage welding?
