Thread: 16" Tire Size

What would be the ideal tire size to run on 16x7.5 wheels for autocrossing?
I have heard that 215 is the best, correct me if I'm wrong, but I am finding it hard to find competitive street tires in that size.

i believe you can get the hankook rs2 and the falken rt615's as well. will a 215/45-16 work? looks like hankook doesnt make a 215/40-16 any more. the 215 45 16 has a pretty good selection, but i dont know what rubbing issues would come with that. my 215-40-16's rubbed on the strut and the fender on the rear but front was fine

Were you running spacers? And were your fender rolled?

I don't know if you will fit any good auto-x tire on the car with 16" wheels. Ben Fenner runs 225/45-15 on a 15x7 wheel. With the taller tires, you have to worry about running into the spring perch, unless you are running coilovers.

I recommend you pick up a cheap set of 15" wheels.

The reason I have 16s is based on the info my parents had in their B13. They gave me their 16x7.5 K1s when they sold their car. With 15s they were constantly in between 1st and 2nd.
Last year they ran 205/35/16 RE01Rs I don't plan on spending that much on tires.(Especially since the RE11R have come out) I was thinking of either 615s or Khumo XS.
The main reason I'm asking about sizes is that I heard my dad talking to a Bridgestone Rep a couple of years ago telling him he wishes there was a 215 RE01R. (He had purchased 205s because that was the best size available.)

So they ran a shorter tire for shorter gearing? If you really want a good auto-x tire for on a budget grab azenis or rs-2. I would just rock the 205/40/16 or go outside and see if the 215/45 will fit under the spring perch.

i rolled the rear fender and use a 5mm spacer, but you can trim the spring perch about 5mm and not rub, the fronts i rolled but didnt need to and not using a spacer up front.

I might be able to find some 215/45s to test fit. I have been reading the ST forum on the SCCA forums. I have been doing my best to keep up with new tires.



I can't trim my spring perch due to using RMs.
If I run 205s there is no need to roll the fenders, but I do plan on getting 15x8s later on for street use.

im running road magnets as well with agxs and if i just trimmed the one side of the perch about 5mm the tire would clear, its not the whole spring perch juist an inch or so wide on the side of it, wont affect the structural integrity of it, but it is much easier to roll the fenders and put a spacer on hence why i didnt trim my perches, i didnt feel like going to the trouble, plus the extra 5mm of offset makes the hweels look even better in those fenders

So if I run the spacer there should be no need to trim my AGX spring perch?
I will just need to roll my fenders correct?
