Report+BIG Pics and new VIDEOS: SCCA Rallycross National 2008 - UPDATED 11/6
This past weekend was the 2008 SCCA National Championship, down the street from me in Lebanon, TN.
Now before this, I had only driven in 3 events (if you don't count the 1 run where I broke my transmission!). Plus this was the first real time in this car with the snow tires. Add to that, I thought the omission of a rear sway bar was too boring, so this was my first Rallycross with an ST sway bar!!!
Friday was the test'n'tune. It was cold and rainy all day which made for a mud bog instead of a track. Since I had gone to a canceled Rallycross earlier in the year, I got the test'n'tune for free. And it didn't help any!! It was so wet and muddy it was all I could do to not get stuck, nevermind going fast! Turned out I was the only 2WD entry that dared the mud pit, so I got prizes for those. Yay!
Saturday and Sunday were competition days. The track was approximately 1 mile long, I think. and it zig-zagged up one way and zig-zagged down the other. At one point I got it up on 2 wheels, and I think I peed my pants a tad. There were different course setups for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was a fast course and Sunday was a technical course.
On Sunday, I witnessed a guy flip his Impreza long-ways right in front of me, going the other way. Again, more pee-stained pants.
Apparently, his LCA broke and his car dug into the ground and flipped end over end, landing on his wheels. It was amazing to see. Plus the driver was OK, save for a couple of cuts on his fingers from the glass.
I didn't get any pictures of action, but I did get video, which I will have to edit down during the week.
