Man , people her just dont have a clue ...

Stock Gap on the SR is .044in. / 1.1mm ... Doesnt matter if its a Platinum or not ... Nissan NEVER had a NON Platinum plug in an SR20 poweed car ... they just listed the option in the FSM as the NGK Catalog showed it ...Again ...the NGK Catalog was wrong at that time ...I even proved it by showing a link to NGK's web site showing the correct plugs and people still think they know more than the spark plug designer ....

Whatever .... I guess 20+ years building Nissans means nothing ...

I was just up at my local Frederick Nissan dealership. The spark plug currently shown for an SR20DE motor is BKR5E, 6E or 7E. This is a current and updated parts catalog.


This thread is now finished and any posts after this one are irrelevant. I will scan and post up the CURRENT DEALERSHIP PRINTOUT listing the BKR6E as the OEM standard plug for the SR20DE when I am home later tonight if you do not believe me.

i see alot of people using this term i have worked on cars for so many years blah blah... im not doubting you man but just because you worked on cars fo soooooooooo long does not mean your always right.

you might be 100 percent right or wrong but trust me i have proven so many guys wrong on certain things that claim they work on cars for soooo long only to be proven wrong....

I 100% agree ... I am wrong sometimes, but I never post on a subject I dont know.... I guess it all comes down to it doesnt really matter ... every one has there own opinion ... and most will not deviate from that ...... The car will run with either ... so run what you want ... I was just trying to point out a FACT given to me by NGK when I had a question many years back about why the Plaitinums had a different gap than the NON ... and Thats what NGK told me and There current catalog also shows that ...

Robchaos ... Do you really think Nissan Updates the Catalogs on a 6+ year old engine ... They could care less ..They just keep listing what has always been listed ...

Hey man no need to be down about it.

Thing about it is, NGK is not Nissan, they may make parts for Nissan but that doesn't mean they utilize them to the best performance for that specific Nissan car.

So thats why I would trust what the manual would have to say, because Nissan would actually time the time to tune the plugs to the best performance/MPG for that specific motor.

I when I did gap testing, I noticed the engine ran a little smoother at .039 gap then at say .032, .035 gaps. Now I did shortly run it at .044 but not enough to notice a difference. Reason is, manual, doesn't say anything about a gap that high. Plus people on the forum would say that GAP is a little too big.

hey guys I have some pretty strong words from a O-Reilly auto parts sales guy today(parts business for 50 yr) and I just wanted to share this,, yeah yeah I know this my mean nothing to any of you ,,it does'nt to me because I'm going by what my service manual says to do., I went in to pick up a 4 pack of NGK BKR6E plugs(part# 6962) and he told me that if any of us are running this plug in our motors that the piston will smack the plug because that plug is for a mitsubishi eclipse NOT a SR20 motor,, I went outside and got my NX2000 service manual and showed him that this plug comes standard in the car from factory(according to the manual) and he told me that NISSAN DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE SAYING,,,, he say's thats a typo directly from NISSAN....
he went on to say that in these motor's it's not good to run a platinum plug too!...... I bought the plugs and told him to go jump off a very high bridge and I did'nt care if he went head or feet first.......


so after all this talk about the plug will someone plz tell me I bought the right plug... got this plug so I can run my NOS...

That is true... with the extended tip plugs.

Put those plugs on and if you hear loud ticking, like a knocking sound, then those are wrong plugs.

So he was saying the right thing, but about the wrong version of the plug

ok now I'm confused,, the NGK BKR6E are the wrong plug?,,, or what do you mean by the extended tip plugs??

The BKR6E is the right plug. I don't understand why there is so much confusion about this. Every dealership I have checked with has confirmed that BKR6E is the correct plug. If I went to my local Nissan dealership and bought 4 standard plugs for the SR20DE, which happen to be BKR6E, then I installed them and the pistons smashed into them, don't you think Nissan would have some major liability in that situation?

No....Nissan never updates the catalog, which is why if you call and ask for Rocker arms or HLAs for a 1993 Sentra SE-R, you will get the UPDATED part number from the newer style SR20DEs. Why would Nissan have to update a plug part number that has not changed? I am sorry but if it comes down to listening to you, NGK, or Nissan on which plug should be run in their car. I will go with Nissan hands down, and I would recommend that anyone else out there who has has any doubt about it, should do the same.
