any other tests or advice

I recently fought with a GA16DE that did not want its timing set. Every time we put it into timing mode it jumped around all over the place, making us think we had a separated crank pulley.

We solved it by having one person push on the gas pedal slightly while one was setting the timing. This made it stable, all it took was 100rpm more to get it rock solid. Never had this issue with any other nissan, but it's worth a try if you're having a jumping pulley

I guarantee its your cap n rotor. My 91 det did the same exact thing, take that cap n off the dizzy and sand paper those terminals gently as well as your rotor. tighten and test..sometime this would happen and id take a rock off the road and use that to clean up the terminals in the dizzy..another thing that work for me was unplug the coil from dizzy and turn it over a few time and maybe clean the spot your wire plugs into..if im right should fire up like a champ

First of all if you need a mechanic to work on your car, you should not be offering advice.

Secondly if your Mechanic used glue or rtv on your intake gasket he should be fired
