^I over looked the calum realtime in your previous post. I like the honest reply about the rev question I had. What do you have your timing set at with the realtime?

base timing is at about 16-17 btdc i need to buy "steal" a program to let me manually put into timing mode

Bump this up....
My swap is almost done and I have changed the title/post #1 to my setup.

SAFC tuning with stock DE ecu?? - SR20 Forum

^Found this thread. Seems pretty good.

^If I get a RT ECU, how much would a SAFC help, or would I even need one with a RT? Still new to the tuning side, but I'm learning.

The stock ECU in my car hits the rev limiter at around 7700 bone stock.

Nice thread here. I'm trying to decide if I want a VE swap, or if a fully bolted DE would be plenty for me. I'm pretty sure I have a 10:1 JDM motor. Anyone know how I can check that?

- Well I will eventually be going built VE, so I will probably need a Calum RT in the long run, but for my current setup, I need to find out if anybody is using a SAFC on a stock DE ECU on how are their results.

If you get a Calum RT (or similar) you will have control over the fuel maps and the spark maps. You won't need SAFC for anything. It is completely unnecessary. Some people still do it anyway because they are more comfortable with the SAFC software than they are with the Nissan daughterboard tuning software. I think that's a silly reason to use a SAFC.

That is your tachometer being off. The tachometer on the dash is known to be 200-400 rpm too optimistic at the limit. The limiter on your ECU is 7,500. All you'd ever want to know about the stock rev limit: http://www.sr20-forum.com/tuning/1430-stock-rev-limit-what.html

Thanks for that. I do notice the the ECU cutting the cylinders out just before 7500 cause the note of the engine changes.

Sorry for the thread jack. Time to do some searching.

^I was wondering when you would post. What about on my stock ECU, or should I just get on the waiting list and run the stock ECU by itself in the mean time? The great thing about the real time is that I can run it on my DE, then remap it for a VE with a new bin/tune without sending it off! I know it cost more than a basic, but it is much more user friendly.

The Calum Basic is a silly thing for a general user to buy in my opinion. It's also not designed for that either. It is designed and only useful in my opinion for a tuner shop. The tuner shop should have a Calum RT to tune with, and they can provide their customers with Calum Basic units burned with their developed tunes (making things a bit cheaper for the customer). This is their only viable use as far as I'm concerned. I believe Calum would agree with me.

A Calum RT as you said is the way to go.

If you're going to stick with the stock ECU then at the very least you'll need something to control fuel with. If that is a SAFC, then so be it. You won't find me recommending them, but it should "work" for your situation.
