And yeah cam gears are out. I can get away with the cam swap because it's technically a stock part.

Swap cams, port match the intake manifold to head and clean up the casting marks and put it back together is your cheapest option.

Highport cam in the lowport cylinder head.

If you really want, you can go with a GTi-R cam (cams?). It used to be sold as a "Nismo" upgrade and was an okay option until JWT started making cams. I think it has issues with daily drivability but for your needs it might be just fine. I don't really know much about it but it might be an option to push the limits of your class.

^^ the above would be great with a switch to solid lifters... just be sure to measure and shim carefully.

Ah yes my bad. Over here all low ports are roller rocker motors. (Btw RR valve cover doesn't fit a ve head. Regular high port de valve cover does though)

@ the OP given all your restrictions I'd say shave the head 1-1.2mm and go with some cams. Heck even re ground cams will give you some benefit in the upper rpm.

What are you doing header, exhaust and intake wise? There are some basic free mods on the de's. Proper tps settings, tb-water bypass mods, base timing etc that will net you some hp. Also a decent fuel pump like a walbro 255 is a must.

Don't gasket match the exhaust. High pressure travels to low pressure...

I vote for a lowport with a matched intake mani and a highport cam.

you may want to look into sneaking some "stock" pistons into the block as well.

i have some new sr16ve n1 piston set that would bump your compression a bit and are a direct fit into what ever sr20de you decide.

^^^^ Agreed. Some flat top 10:1 DE, 20v VE, N1 or 16VE pistons will all go a long way and are all factory nissan parts.
