need help on race car
Hey guys I have a 94 se-r that's going to be a circle track race car. its already gutted and im getting the rollcage put in sat so this is 100% a racecar not a street car. For what im doing with the car its never gonna be below 5500 rpm unless im pulling it off the trailer or under caution. What I was planning on doing was have a machine shop shave the head 25-30 thousandths to raise compression and do a 5 angle valve job. From my limited knowledge ive gathered the highport flows better in the upper rpms so my question is should I switch to the highport? How far off will a lowport head with the highport cam swap be from the highport assuming they both have the same headwork done to them? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The highport intake manifold flows more cfm than the lowport intake manifold.

The lowport cylinder head flows more cfm than the highport cylinder hear. The HLA base is on the tops of the intake ports of the highport cylinder head so the ports have to curve around to get back into the cylinder.

P.S. In before "GET A VE"

So the highport intake flows better than the lowport but the lowport cylinder head flows better than the highport. So which way would you recommend me going? I haven't ruled out a ve for a future racecar but right now im just trying to figure out what the difference will be between the two will be in the high rpm range.

GET A VE...

or go solid lifter on the DE if you're gonna be living in the upper rpms

If you are going to be in the upper RPM, a VE is a no-brainer.

But, what are your limitations? (if any)

RollerRocker + Compression + cams might be the easiest thing to sneak under the radar of there are "swap limitations" in your class or something.

Yeah from my little bit of knowledge the ve is a bad a$$ motor and I might go that way in a future car just don't have the funds right now. And no there aren't any swap restrictions. Its pretty much stock. So that's why im curious if my 94 lowport head with a highport cam will make as much power as a high port above 5500 rpm

The ve would fall in a very grey area of the rule book. It would really suck to come up with the money to put it in then get DQed after the first race so the ve isn't an option right now.

I have a high port that flows just as much as the ve. Port the high port head and bust heads.

Don't waiste your time and money on machine work. Get a SR20ve and be done with it. The work you mentioned on the de will cost more and make less hp. You can pick up a ve motor with ecu for 750$ add cheap exhaust and you can be driving a 180hp track car for 1000$. Sounds like a fun project so good luck with it.
