point taken but if you have a perfectly functional DE, swapping cams and ECU simply isn't going to be as labor intensive as an engine swap (plus replacement VEs aren't as readily available if you something goes wrong like you miss a shift at the track (which has happened to my husband before with our former stock sr20de p10 btw)

..Bottom line is one of the reasons we went with Nissan/Infiniti SR20 power for a track rat is cheap replacement engines if needed.. VE power not only ups that 'replacement cost' significantly but changes the classification and I question the competition ability a VE powered dyno reclass would put you into to be perfectly honest.

the average VE with intake, n1 cams, header, 3in exhaust, and ECU makes 198-204 WHP and 145-154 ft lb torque.

any angle-corner to win.

DEs suck ass. VE all the way.

DEs VW Beetle, VE Porsche 911

^ and you sell a VE engine with ECU for how much shipped ? certainly not $750, right?

Im with SR20GTi-R... its 2014, not 5 or 10 years ago. VE has best power for money. VE makes more torque and power over a DE in whole rpm range.

Leave the VW Beetle section alone!

5 years ago is being generous. You meant to say 10-15 years ago. lol

Not sure what the debate is here. It has been proven the VE makes more HP and torque than a DE. DE's are very reliable and there are multiples of them out there running at over 200K miles. The VE has not been out in the US as long and under these conditions. It is a newer motor with some improvements over the DE so we can assume it is just as reliable if not more reliable. In either case, the VE or DE is not perfect or ideal for every use. They each have a place.

Chris, i think you are in a special place when it comes to racing. You have rules and regulations you have to follow which makes your choices more of a balance.

For the other 97.6345% of us that use the car on the street the VE is very attractive. You can swap in a VE and get ~160+ WHP in stock form with room to go. Or with simple bolt ons you can build a 200 WHP VE way cheaper than a DE and have better low end and high end than the DE.

Does this mean the VE is "better" than a DE? Not necessarily, it all depends on the application. Arguing this is a mute point, each person has a specific use and goal for their vehicle, each motor has its own niche.
