At least @Andreas Miko got a laugh out of it.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear enough. If you look at what I posted, I merely said a VE is much like an S2000 (or just about any VTEC honda actually) where you have to be high in the revs to be in the power band and the torque is not very high. <-- for that reason, we do not see it as a good racetrack option (along with the points issue in PT class) I did NOT state that a VE has less torque than a De at any time. My apologies if I wasn't being clear enough about that in my 1st post. I am not going to say that a DE is any better or worse than a stock VE overall but I am going to say there is obviously more expense involved in going to a VE over cams in a DE (and that is a very simple truth here).

I must admit that I am not sure why the statement was made that a stock VE is more reliable than a Cam'ed DE (I guess I am missing something there?) ...unless the statement was meant to say the cam'ed DE means taxing the engine more? Perhaps someone can elaborate and explain so I may learn something new.

I am sorry but I can't agree.

The VE is nothing like a "Honda". It in fact makes the same if not more than HP/TQ than your average bolted DE in the lower RPM range.

The dual profile cam shaft actually gives you the best of both worlds. I can post some overlays of a S3/S4 DE vs a stock VE if needed.

If you start with the heads between the two, rocker design alone is something that is a big indication.

On my phone at the moment and will not list all of the design advances that make the VE more reliable.

...interesting.. just remembered the VE B15 that raced a year just didn't do so great.. hp around 190 w/torque at around 130 IIRC (seemed just like typical honda to me anyway)

..still have zero interest in going VE for w2w racing is the bottom line (perhaps someone else will blaze the trail with VE powered Nissan at NASA Nationals and win though?)

No one ever said that the ve is more reliable...I stated that a modded de is old school and that ve is way cheaper these days and in its stock form is better than a de with cams. I dont see the sense in spending $500 on cams when you can save a few pennies more and get a better motor.

^ still just not seeing 'a few pennies more' when you have to buy the VE engine, harness, ECU and labor to do the whole swap correctly vs. labor to swap cams (along with down time, etc.)

...and if VE engines can be bought for $750 now (havent' researched myself to know this is true or not), I highly doubt that is 'new' and not that many people buy NEW S4 cams either (used S4 cams aren't $560 either )

and actually, yes, someone here has indeed stated the VE is more reliable than a DE

No modification to the harness needed.

No difference in installing than a DE.

Chipped ecu's can be had for $150 (hopefully you guys aren't using S4's on a stock ECU)
