Thread: JWT C2 cams on JDM highport DE

Just wondering if it will work without the valves and pistons having a little party?
The head has dual valve springs and titanium retainers, was planning on using as close to factory 1.1mm head gasket and not touching the bottom end.

I know for a fact that people use C2's on regular and untouched 9.5:1 bottom ends with no issues, but I'm not sure how much things change with the 10:1 motor I have.

I would put some SR16VE pistons in there just so the cams have a good CR to make their magic.

Im not sure if you will have issues with the flat pistons from the 10.1:1 SR20DE, lets see what the other folks have to say.

True. Pistons and new rings are maybe 200usd and it will be much better setup. Should easily make 200 hp (crank).

Yeah you guys are spot on, and some high comp pistons would be great - but the motor will be getting tapped for turbo while it's out and then when the turbo goes on in approx 6 months to a year I'll swap the C2's out for Poncams.

I've pulled apart a DE before, but I wouldn't have a clue how to install pistons.

So yeah, much appreciate your input guys but I'm hoping someone can tell me with certainty that it will/won't work with the stock pistons

I swear there must be some people who've run C series on 10:1 motors... @Storm88000 didn't you have this setup back in the day?

When in doubt - just call JWT as they would be able to tell you with 100% accuracy I would think.

Are you sure that your JDM SR20DE is a 10:1 engine as most were 9.5:1 ?

Easiest way to tell is by which EXM it came with.

I did have the JWT-C setup on the high comp DE. It made a nice difference but I never got around to getting the ECU tuned for it because well, the car got wrecked and parted out.

Please take a look at sr20ve pistons and look at where the valve reliefs are. They go right near the edge of the crown.



And now look at SR20DE 9.5:1 pistons.



If you know 9.5:1 pistons clear C2's fine, then do you think 9.5:1 DE pistons have any more valve clearance than a flat top 10.1 DE piston?

They run C3 in stock 9.5:1 CR DE.

I would use S4 cams if you want to go turbo...

Definitely 10:1, in Australia we got Jap Spec SSS pulsars and this is the motor from one-they are all 10:1.

Ok sweet, C2 with less lift should be okay on 10:1 then. It's all gonna be tight!
Yeah absolutely man, I'll be getting S4's or poncams when the turbo goes on-but for now I'm buying the head all professionally cleaned and complete with brand new C2 cams/springs/retainers/seals/guides for $650.
