Thread: Redline Lightweight shockproof Gear Oil for SR Tranny?

had anyone tried this? i heard MT90 is good for SR tranny just wondering if this is also applicable?

Any of the redline products are good just don't use all shock proof heavy. Generally most use 1-1.5 qts heavy and the rest mt90. I have used valvoline,mobil 1, penzoil syncromesh, redline shock proof light weight. They all work but redline seems to be the best.

I think personally the best way to make these transmissions last is to actually change the gear oil sooner than once a decade. I would say once a year at least depending on how much you drive or how hard you drive your car. Also, i am still using lightweight shockproof, but am going to switch and see how the shifting is with mt90/sph vs the spl.

If it will make you feel better Ben i will switch to the mt90 and sph mix when i change my fluids this weekend.

We used Valvoline 80w-90 GL-4 equivalent during our race over the weekend and it held out fine for 14 hours of abuse. Probably would have used Red Line if not for the $40 price difference.

Ive used the Redline on my B13 and the trans lasted years with a t3 turbo and after 5 years on boost it gave up and exploded at the track. The fluid was the never changed in that time which if I changed it I might have got more life out of the tranny. Now the car is a spec-v 6 speed so lets see how that holds up.

@specalk, this thread is about Redline LIGHTWEIGHT Shockproof Gear Oil. Is that what you were running in your transmission? Because I highly doubt it.

Since I made my car a 5spd I've always used Heavy Shockproof. No mixture either.

Have ran both lightweight and heavyweight in SR transmissions , all have worked great ... only thing to be aware of is if you use a clutch style LSD ( like the NISMO ) you cant run the Redline shockproof, the LSD will not like it !! I run regular Redline synthetic 75w-90 in my track car with the NISMO lsd ....
