when i done mine, it skipped an exhaust tooth. it ran but, with a bit of retarded timing.sounded like a 320degree duration cam,and idled bad.

i got a mate to help me get it right. we removed the tensioner, got the slack between the cam gears, and "slipped" it in that way.

put the tensioner back in, and that took up most of the slack, and i must of then rotated the engine 16 times, recounting the teeth every time i got to tdc. now it was hard, but once the tensioner was in, it would of been very hard to jump another tooth doing it that way.

your's is different, but i don't know why. something could be binding somewhere, both tensioners could be bad, the only thing now to do is to get a second pair of eyes to look at it.

Thats just like how i did it when it skipped a tooth, and have a person having a look tomorrow at it,finger crossed its something silly and not major,i honesty cant see much being wrong with it.

Thanks for your input pal,i will report back with a update.

If something was binding, the engine would not turn over smoothly by hand as it did early on,so i dont think anything is binding, when i was hand cranking it over, but for some reason i now have excessive slack so beats me !

Right, got it started up tonight,it was a bad chain tensioner, all i have done is let it idle for abit,no rattle or noises.

Anybody ever heard of the chain oiler pin getting broken or knocked off before on a SR20DE ENGINE ??

I just need a new gasket as its pissing oil out from the tensioner area !

congrats,

looks like i guessed it on 31/3. not the first time i've heard of a dodgy new tensioner.

hope you enjoy them.

chain oiler...you will know when you drop the oil.here's a reference.

So it was just a bad tensioner? sweet!! that's much cheaper than all new valves

Yep i think it was due to a bad tensioner, been for a 150 mile drive today after changing the engine oil also, these cams are great,so much more power after 3.5k,exhaust is also alot louder too LOL.
