Valve springs and retainers
RR lifters
VE oil pump

This setup will rev to the sky.

are there grooved shims in different thickness available? i thought they are all the same.

They are all the same although I'm sure there are some variances in thicknesses between one and another (any mass produced part will).

So you will need to treat one of the guides as a shim and instead of buying different thickness guides you will have to sand one of them down to the proper thickness.

p.s. make sure when you measure you measure the guides while they are on top of the valves in the assembled head

Get a measuring caliper. Measure each flat shim and record where it came from. Then get on the forum and ask people for groved shims, you should be able to get 32 of these things for free or less than $5. When you get them measue them and match them up to the flat shim that you removed.

The RR lifter should stil be able to be used with the DE non RR rocker i imagine!

Would there be any reliability gain in going to a RR rocker arm as well as the RR lifter?

none at all, in fact it would be a disaster as the rocker ratio and the follower radius are both different.

OK so the best way to approach it would be to throw a set of RR hydraulic lifters in there and leave everything else?

I dont understand what is so hard for people to get here.

1. Grooved shims on both sides lessens the chance of the rocker arm flying loose by 50%

2. Valve springs and retainers, we all know what they do. They allow you to rev higher with a less chance of valve float.

3. RR lifter big hole on the side small hole on top. This lets in more oil into the lifter and less oil out the lifter. Less oil out means less chance of colapse

4. VE oil pump had higher oil presure and flow this keeps the lifter from colapsing under greater load because of the higher oil presure.



I will put them in order of importance.

1. Valve springs and retainers.
2. Grooves shims and shave rocker arm for them to fit.
3. RR lifter
4. Oil Pump it might be last but you can see the importance.



Here we have a pick of what needs to be done. Get the grooved shim to fit on the Rocker arm, like on the oposite side.

So there we have it all info in one post. Should be easy to understand, but why do I feel there will be some more questions on this.
